YOUNG WOMEN IN STEM

At St. John's Regional College, the emphasis on encouraging girls to engage in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields is a vital part of the school's mission to promote gender equality and inspire future leaders. By providing hands-on experiences, such as an incursion focused on flying drones and coding, the college fosters an environment where girls can develop essential skills and confidence in traditionally male-dominated areas.

During the drone-flying workshop, students not only learned the technical aspects of operating drones but also explored programming elements, thereby enhancing their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. This hands-on approach sparked their interest in technology and engineering, highlighting the practical applications of STEM knowledge.

Participation in these activities equips girls with competencies that are highly sought after in the job market. As industries increasingly prioritise technological proficiency, understanding programming and engineering concepts becomes a competitive advantage. By investing in STEM education for girls, St. John's Regional College not only prepares students for future employment opportunities but also empowers them to become innovators and leaders in their chosen fields. This initiative cultivates a culture of excellence and inspires girls to pursue careers in STEM, ultimately leading to a more diverse and inclusive workforce.
