VCE ART MAKING & EHIBITING EXCURSION

Earlier this term, the year 11 and 12 Art classes took the train up to Melbourne to view the annual Top Arts exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria, Fed Square.

We started our day with a walk through the streets of Melbourne, looking at many types of street art stopping at Hozier Lane to see the political impact art can have. I loved the originality and diversity of the works. We experienced an informative presentation from NGV education staff about the artworks and curatorial considerations made for the Top Arts exhibition and gallery space. We were then able to view last year's top VCE students finished art pieces, with my favourite artwork being a large sculptural piece of copper impressed with the braille words for “Please do not touch”! We had a short break for lunch and then headed to the NGV International to view more artworks on display.  It was a huge event, we tried to see as much as possible, and from what we did see it was incredible! A huge sculpture from Yayoi Kusama being my favourite!

We then headed home and reflected on the photos taken, the artworks and exhibition spaces we viewed. It was an amazing experience, and I learned a lot about the top students' experiences and pieces, which will really help with my folio, course requirements and finished artworks to give them higher meaning and detail.

Thanks to Ms. Gosper and Ms. Mitchell for organising this and joining us on the day.
