SPORTS UPDATE

Year 8 Boys Football
The Year 8 Boys Football team showed outstanding improvement during their games against Grovedale and Western Heights. Their performances reflected significant growth since Year 7, playing with strong teamwork and determination. Congratulations to Ollie Erb, Levi Bourke, Harry Smith, and Ethan Sobiech who all kicked goals on the day. A great effort from the whole team.
Year 8 Netball
Two Year 8 Netball teams – an A and B team – competed with enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout the day. Coached by Ginger Brown, the girls displayed positive energy and teamwork, achieving some wins across their matches. A big well done to all players for their effort and spirit on the court!
Year 7 Girls Netball
Last Thursday, Miss Broadbent and Sports Assistant, Michaela took two groups of Year 7 girls to a local netball competition, where they played against other schools in our area.
While the girls didn’t come away with any wins, they had a great time and displayed wonderful sportsmanship throughout the day. Their enthusiasm and team spirit made us proud!
Year 7 Boys Soccer
The Year 7 Boys Soccer team, coached by Mr Skelic and supported by Year 8 students Zac and Luke, had a great start with a 3-0 win against Belmont. Despite a tough second game, the team demonstrated a positive attitude. A promising start to their interschool sports journeys!
Junior Badminton
Coached by Miss McWha, six pairs of boys and six pairs of girls from Years 7 and 8 represented the school in a competitive day of Badminton. The teams had some impressive wins across their draw, despite facing tough opposition from traditionally strong schools like Northern Bay and North Geelong. As always, Oberon students represented the school with great behaviour and sportsmanship, making it a pleasure to attend.
Year 7 Boys Footy (Coached and written by Bill Rogers)
Hudson Bourke captained the side and did a tremendous job as a proactive and inclusive leader, guiding the group with maturity and composure. As a Level 1 AFL coach, I had the privilege of coaching the team, with Joel assisting as goal umpire. The boys played three close matches—narrowly going down to Belmont (eventual runners-up), Bellarine, and Surf Coast—but never dropped their heads. They played a strong, fair, and physical brand of footy and showed outstanding sportsmanship throughout the day. Their behaviour was first-class—polite, respectful, and a credit to Oberon.
