Thankyou to all the parents who have been signing up to help in the Art room. Your assistance is so valued and appreciated! Just a gentle reminder to please sign the code of conduct (yearly), provide your WWCC number and complete the Child Safe Training online (each calendar year) BEFORE signing up to avoid us having to chase you up and potentially cancel your timeslot. Please see the office to complete these steps.

In the Artroom this week...
Prep
Students will be looking ahead to their Teddy Bear Picnic coming up and experimenting with sponge printing to create a painted teddy. They will also learn about ‘plaid’ pattern and have a go at it when making a background.
Grade 1
Students will be finishing their Carolyn Trowbridge inspired artwork, by tearing painted papers into petal shapes and layering them to create a large flower to complete their still life vase piece.
Grade 2
Students will be continuing their stitched bird artwork, practising threading a plastic needle, tying a knot at the end of their yarn, and following the up and down pattern of a running stitch.
Grade 3/4
****Students will need the app 'Brushes Redux' (free from the app store) for their Art class this week. Please help your child to download it in readiness. Thankyou!
Students will be finishing their plasticine Australian bird ‘painting’ before beginning a new artist focus: Howard Arkley. His suburban house façade artworks will inspire us to create our own over the coming weeks using the iPad app Brushes Reflux.
Grade 5
Students will be finishing off their Australian animal grid drawing using grey lead. They will then begin a collaborative artwork with all Grade 5s looking at Aboriginal markings and story-telling artwork before drawing some designs onto timber panels.
Grade 6
Students will be finishing the stitching around their famous Australian person, focussing on the colour, balance and composition of their final design.
Grade 1 & 2:
Students will continue to learn about the seasonal patterns of nature, with a particular focus on the calendars of the local Wurundjeri people. Through observations of the sky, they will learn about the patterns of day, night, and seasons, ; including the movements of the sun, moon, planets and stars.
Grade 3 & 4:
Students will complete their exploration of rocks, researching how common types of rocks are used by humans, before beginning an investigation of where water is found on Earth. They will participate in an interactive demonstration about the amount of drinkable, fresh water on Earth compared to the amount of salt water. Students will be prompted to solve problems on how to share the fresh water fairly, and they will learn about how salt water can be converted into fresh water through desalination.
Grade 5 & 6:
Students will connect their knowledge of physical and chemical change to the process of weathering on rocks and minerals in the environment. They will conduct a range of experiments to model different processes that break down materials over time. Students will then find examples of where weathering has occurred locally, for example, in the rock of Mount Dandenong, which turns into red clay over time and leads to landslides.
Prep
Prep students will begin learning the signs for animals. They will first explore the signs for pet animals. They will consolidate their learning by signing a simple sentence describing the colour a specific animal image.
Grade 1 and 2
Grade 1 and 2 students will review their knowledge of the signs for the letters of the alphabet and begin to the develop their skill in reading finger spelling. They will also play a game of 'I Spy' to help consolidate the application of their knowledge
Grade 3 and 4
Grade 3 and 4 students are learning how pointing is used in Auslan conversations to identify objects and people. They will be learning how to sign pronouns, along with the adjectives: strong; weak; loud; quiet; smart; creative; slow and fast to help them describe a subject.
Grade 5 and 6
Grade 5 and 6 students have been creating ‘Who Am I?’ presentations using their ability to sign short descriptions/clues about famous characters. They will present these clues to the class and try to identify the mystery character.
