Week 6, Term 2
🌱 LITERACY
This week in Reading, students will continue exploring our mentor text Storm Boy, with a focus on Chapter 5. Together, we will read the chapter, unpack new vocabulary, and discuss key events. Students will reflect on how these events deepen their understanding of the main characters.
This week in Writing, students will complete their information reports about The Coorong, with a focus on editing and publishing using apps like Keynote, and also potentially on poster. They will then begin exploring persuasive writing, learning what makes an effective argument. Students will also practise supporting their opinions with relevant facts to strengthen their writing.
You can support your child in Reading by discussing the events of Chapter 5 together and asking questions about how the characters are changing and why.
You can support your child in Writing by discussing topics they feel strongly about and helping them practise expressing their opinions with clear reasons and supporting facts.
🌱 NUMERACY
This week, students will finalise their learning on Mapping and Statistics before beginning a new focus on Subtraction. They will start with a subtraction pre-test and then explore subtraction facts and strategies. We will also trial a daily review at the start of each lesson, where students spend five minutes revisiting previously taught skills. This aims to support consolidation and strengthen understanding over time.
You can support your child at home by practising basic subtraction facts together and encouraging them to explain the strategies they use to solve problems.
🌱 CBL
This week in CBL, we will continue to explore our Big Idea of Diversity. Students will continue their five-session rotation in designated CBL groups, each delving into a different chapter of Australian history. Together, we will explore the cultural groups that have shaped modern Australia, including First Nations Australians, British settlers, Asian migrants during the Gold Rush, post-war migration from Italy, Greece and Germany, and more recent refugee communities. Through this journey, students will develop a deeper understanding of Australia’s rich and diverse cultural fabric.
You can support your child’s learning by discussing their own family’s cultural background and exploring stories or media that highlight Australia’s diverse communities.
Wellbeing
This week in Wellbeing, students will continue their Respectful Relationships unit by exploring Lesson 3.2, which focuses on understanding and managing strong emotions. In Cyber Safety, they will learn about making safe and appropriate choices when using the internet. These lessons aim to support students in developing emotional awareness and responsible online behaviour.

🌿 REMINDERS
🌱 Please assist your child in ensuring that their iPad comes to school every day, fully charged.
🌱 Check that your child has headphones which work and connect to their iPad.
DROP OFF AND PICK UP IN LANTANA
Please be mindful of the road signs on Lantana Road. It is a NO PARKING zone in front of the school, during school start and finish times. To ensure a smooth and safe process, we have a designated pick-up system at the end of the day where a teacher monitors and guides students into cars lined up in the queue. This system works efficiently when there are no parked cars breaching the signage during these times. Thank you for your cooperation.
