Year 2 - Newsletter

Dear Year 2 parents & guardians,

We aren’t far off halfway through Term 2. The cold weather has set in which is a good reminder to ensure students have warmer uniform items to wear to school. Please make sure jumpers are labelled - we are finding lots left lying around and they are much easier to return when named.

What we’ve been up to in Year 2 the last few week:

English:

-We have just finished our Little Learners Love Literacy Stage 7 review and are moving into the new Stage 7.5 with a focus on morphemes

-Studying narratives through the mentor text ‘Rose Meets Mr. Wintergarten’: we are looking at narrative structure, adjective phrases, inside and outside traits and will be planning our own narratives

Maths:

-We recently finished a unit on 2D shapes

-We’ve started addition and subtraction, looking at the connection between these, strategies to add and subtract such as using doubles, numbers lines and fact families

Inquiry:

-We are on a trip around the world (if only it were a real one!): so far we have visited 2 countries and looked at the location of these, the flag, population, currency and other facts

Wellbeing:

-We have been using the book ‘Jasper: The Feelings Robot’ book to explore a range of feelings and what they look like, feel like and how they can make us act.

-Janine Tucker is commencing Friendology lessons alongside the classroom teachers weekly in each Year 2 class

Maths day

What a huge success that was - thank you to everyone who came. The turn out in Year 2 was amazing. We hope you loved the day as much as the kids loved having you here.

Life Education

The Year 2s had a session on Online Safety. It was age appropriate and talked about what the internet is, what we use the internet for and how we can be safe online. This included activities and discussions on not sharing passwords, asking for permission to use the internet, having time limits on screen time and not giving away personal information. The students participated positively and loved their time with Harold the giraffe.

Reminders
