A Message from the Art Room

TERM 2 ARTS NEWSLETTER
It has been a very busy term in the art room. As always, it is a hive of activity with amazing projects created by all grade levels.
The Preps have been exploring painting techniques and painting with texture wands. They explored the art elements of texture and colour. The Preps used their senses to describe tree trunks in the school grounds. Then they created textured Autumn trees using pastels, watercolours and texture wands. Their artworks have created a colourful display in the corridor alongside the art room.
The Grade Ones have explored primary and secondary colours. They created secondary colours by mixing primary colours together. Then they created an underwater sea creature painting using these colours.
The Two/Threes explored indigenous paintings and the symbols they use in their paintings to tell a story. They were inspired by the indigenous artist Rheanna Lotter to create their own stories using indigenous symbols. They also explored the painting Starry Night and used Van Gogh painting techniques to create their own paintings. Their artwork has provided a stunning display outside the art room.
The Four/Fives have been involved in studying the origin of Steampunk art. They designed their own Steampunk projects and then selected appropriate materials to use for their constructions. The students learnt how to use paper mache, plaster bandages and masking tape to join their materials together. Then students painted their structures and embellished them with gears, cogs and other metallic objects. These constructions will make an amazing display, once they have been completed.
The Sixes explored creating prints using foam sheets. The students researched and drew an Australian icon or animal. Then they traced over it on a piece of foam. The students used rollers and paint to create their prints. They also studied the artist Andy Warhol and created artwork inspired by this artist.
