Principal

Spring has sprung!!

Melbourne weather certainly keeps us on our toes and never more so than during Spring. It appears that showers are programmed to fall at 1:00 and 3:30 each day! That said, it has been lovely to have some warmer days in the last week. We have most definitely turned a corner.

With just over a week and a half to go, I hope you have all planned some fun holiday activities or maybe even a getaway. I know I will be looking forward to my grown-up children spoiling me with cups of tea, brunches and by doing all the housework….hmmmm…wishful thinking!

Term 4 will be upon us soon enough and will see the return of our fearless leader Lyn Rodda, relaxed and recharged. Thank you for your support this term, I look forward to stepping back and handing the reigns back to Lyn for the remainder of 2023!

Planning days

Over the next couple of weeks our teachers will meet in their teams to set out the learning for Term 4. To cater for this, each year level has been assigned a day for planning, and the class will be covered with a casual relief teacher (CRT). This will allow for continuity of learning and routine for the students, while allowing our teachers valuable collaborative planning time.

September – HATS!

When it comes to using sun protection, temperature isn't a useful guide. You can't see or feel UV, but UV is the part of the sun that can damage skin and eyes and lead to skin cancer.  SunSmart advises that Victoria's UV levels start to rise from mid-August.  We will monitor the UV levels at school and for the remainder of term 3, if the UV is predicted to be 3 or above, hats will be required.  Please ensure your child has their school hat at school every day.  If students do not have a hat, they will be instructed to play under cover in a shaded area.   For SunSmart information visit:  https://www.sunsmart.com.au/communities/parents

Expos – Thursday 14 September

Year 3/4 students have been working hard on their stop motion animation and will be holding an expo next Thursday from 2:00pm. We invite you to come along to the 3/4 rooms and see what they have been creating.

Year 5/6 students are holding their expo on the same day at the same time. They will have displays showcasing the work they have been doing on countries of their choice.

Free Dress Days

  • Friday 8 September – Multicultural Day
  • Wednesday 13 September - SRC are hosting a ‘dress warm for Mallika’ gold coin fundraising day to help raise money for our Nepalese sponsor child.
  • Students are invited to wear warm hoodies/oodies/beanies/scarves as all heaters will remain switched off for the day, trying to imagine what it is like for Mallika in the chilly weather of Nepal.
  • Friday 15 September – Footy Fever Day - come dressed in your footy colours

Bike Education

Bike Ed commences at the beginning of term 4.  Every Thursday the year 5/6 students will be participating in bike related activities.  Students will require a helmet and a bike with gears, BMX bikes are not recommended.  If your child does not own a bike, perhaps consider borrowing one from a friend or neighbour for the sessions.

Chess Competition

We had a number of students participating in a chess tournament run by Chess Victoria. Congratulations to Kian, Henry M, Jasper, Arjen, Logan, Teodora and Caitlin a great achievement for you all.  The final for this competition is on this week and we wish those competing good luck.

Senior Hooptime

I was lucky enough to attend the senior Hooptime competition at the State Basketball         stadium yesterday. I was so proud of each and every one of our students who all put in an amazing effort over many games. The team work and support among the students was very pleasing to see. It made me realise how much I miss teaching P.E! Congratulations to our boys A and girls A teams who won their grand finals and will proceed to the next round of the competition.
