F1

F1Azul (F1EFGH)

F1 Azul have been working on writing narrative stories, in both English and Spanish. We have spent the term learning about character and setting in Spanish. In English, we have been writing stories with sizzling starts, interesting events and exciting endings. After plenty of editing, we are now beginning to publish our stories and they are looking great!

Literacy

We can't get enough of writing this term! The students have been loving exploring characters and settings during Spanish and writing about them during English lessons. We have officially banned 'once upon a time' and 'the end' from our stories and instead replaced them with Sizzling Starts like 'The thunder woke up Molly with a bash and a crash' written by Yolandi and Exciting Endings like 'Alex learnt that she should never leave her sword behind' written by Pia.

This week during Book Week we have been exploring different genres like fiction and non-fiction. Have a flick through your home bookshelves and see if you can identify some Fiction and Non-Fiction books together.

The Code lesson has been such a highlight of our week. We begin by listening to our class novels 'Wolf Girl' and 'James and the Giant Peach' and split off into our groups to explore new sounds and spelling patterns. The latest spelling pattern that has divided our class is the lazy 'schwa' represented by /er/. Words like sister, farmer and bigger all have that lazy /uh/ sound on the end...or do they?...Test it out! Do you pronounce the /er/ on the end or /uh/?

Maths

2,4,6,8.. we have been skipping our way through Maths builders over the last few weeks. Students have been practicing skip counting by 2's, 5's and 10's and we have even connected our learning of money by skip counting coins! In the Spanish classroom, students have been applying their learning of addition and subtraction to length as they measure objects around the classroom.
