eSafety

Issue #1 2023

Hello St. Simon’s!.

The term has flown by and seen the introduction of a number of exciting activities!

The termly Inform and Empower Cyber Safety online sessions have been furthering our understanding of important terms around screen time and green time, as well as the types of choices faced by children while using the internet in this day and age.

A useful Carer/.Parent Support Resource Link

As a parent / carer, it can be difficult at times to know how to support your child after an online event or incident has occurred. You’re not alone.

This following link is a resource to help parents/carers to help maintain positive relationships following an

online safety incident.

Lunch Time Digitech

This term a number of new opportunities for year 5 and 6 students to participate in digitech related activities at lunchtime have rolled out.

Minecraft Club

While being a popular game for children, Minecraft can also serve as a great educational tool. It encourages students to use their creativity, problem solving, critical thinking and spatial reasoning. Minecraft also allows students to create and explore virtual worlds, using teamwork to achieve collaborative goals. Minecraft club runs during the first half of lunch on Thursdays each week.

e-Sports

Term 3 has seen the entry of St Simon’s senior school into the world of esports! Students across both levels have been battling it out against each other in Mario Kart practising goodsmanship and encouraging each other. These sessions run during the first half of lunch on Wednesdays each week.

Upcoming eSmart events

Keep an eye out for the following things down the road.

  • The rollout of an online reporting tool for students to ask for support relating to online activities or incidents
  • eSmart day
  • The introduction of a student dashboard filled with useful information around technology and to assist in connecting students to frequently used websites.
