Year 3 & 4 Junior Hoop Time Basketball Inter School Competition

Well done to all our Year 3 and 4 St Simon basketball teams at the Junior Hoop Time tournament at Casey basketball stadium on Tuesday 22nd August.

Our St Simon AllStar Boys team had stellar games, winning two games and one draw out of their 6 round robin games. The boys were able to make it into a semi final. Unfortunately it was met with a loss but they ended up coming third overall on the day.

Our All Star Girls team was very defensively orientated on the day which translated into offensive fast breaks and scoring shots in their games. Our St Simon girls won most of their round robin games which advanced them to a semi final. In the semi final, the girls won their game 8 to 4 in a tough match up. The grand final was electric around the show court with our girls spurred on by the cheers of our St Simon students. Despite the efforts offensively and defensively, they were unable to capitalise on their shots and only just lost 8 to 6. This is a fine effort from our girls who kept their heads high and were positive about their experience at this level of competition.

All teams in our Future Stars performed really well with a mixture of results across the teams. There was some great teamwork from our St Simon Storm team who won three out of their four pool games. We would like to highlight the skills displayed by our Year 3 students, Ruben Azzam and Tyler Li, who both help our team ‘get buckets’ against the other school teams. Our girls Eloise Le Brocq and Audrey in the St Simon Stingray Future Star team also made strong contributions defensively and with their passing and floor spacing on offence.

A special mention goes to the ‘Rookie’ teams who played fantastic basketball, improving in their dribbling, passing and team awareness as the day went on. It was great to see rival St Simon teams versus each other. All games were extremely close with all our students really enjoying getting up and down the court.

A big thank you to all our parent volunteers on the day as coaches and scorers. Your contribution made this a fun and exciting experience for our students. Also we like to send a big appreciation to our Year 6 leaders who help as coaches on the day, even refereeing a few games for our rookies and future star games.
