Instrumental Music

Term 3 has been a crescendo of musical experiences at TLSC. On behalf of the instrumental music team, we are thrilled to share the highlights with you. We will take you through two exceptional events that have left a lasting impact on our students and the wider community.

Outreach Session at Remus Way Children's Centre

Music is a universal language that transcends boundaries and brings people together. In this spirit, we organized a special music outreach session at Remus Way Children's Centre. The music excursion was a collaborative effort between a local kindergarten and TLSC Violin Trio. Prior to their visit, the music students carefully planned their outreach event. This included selecting a repertoire that would engage the young audience and rehearsed for it.

The TLSC Violin Trio, composed of our talented violinists and guitarist, took the stage to perform nursery rhymes and introduce the enchanting world of violins to preschoolers. This endeavour was not only an opportunity for these students to showcase their musical talents but also a chance to nurture the next generation of music enthusiasts. The children were mesmerized by the melodies and their smiles were a testament to the success of the outreach event.

TLSC students, not only performers but also educators, shared their experiences of playing violins and allowed the preschoolers to try out the instruments for themselves. After the performance, the preschoolers were given a chance to try holding violins ranged from size 1/16, 1/8, 1/4 and bowing the strings under the guidance of the music students. This hands-on experience ignited curiosity and left a lasting impression on the young minds.

Hamer Hall - Melbourne Symphony Orchestra

In another event this term, a group of 60 instrumental students had the privilege of attending an open rehearsal at Hamer Hall. Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of conductor Xian Zhang, rehearsed Robert Schumann's Symphony No. 1 in B flat, Op. 38 (Spring).

It was a captivating experience, witnessing the dedication and precision required to bring a masterpiece to life. The students left with a newfound appreciation for the intricacies of orchestral music and the dedication it takes to achieve excellence. This excursion was not just a chance to witness a world-class orchestra but also an opportunity for our students to dream bigger, aspire higher, and continue honing their musical talents.

Both of these events were designed with a common goal - to increase interest in orchestral instruments. Whether it was through enchanting the young minds at a Kindergarten or inspiring TLSC instrumental students at Hamer Hall, we believe that music has the power to shape futures and broaden horizons.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to TLSC Violin Trio, Mr Vasilevski, Ms Turok and Ms Vandeloo for accompanying the students, and the wider community for their support in making these events possible. As we move forward into Term 4, we are excited about the musical adventures that await us and the continued growth of our musical family.
