Around the Grounds

Year 7 & 8

I had the pleasure to take a group of Yr7/8 students out to Valley Reserve on Monday to film an advertisement for ‘The Ultimate Renewable – Wood’ with Adam Dovile from Better Homes and Gardens. All the film crew commented on how great the students were, how polite and easy to work with they were, and how well they all conducted themselves.

Shanya A (Year 11)

Well done to Shanya who was featured in an article by Villa Maria Catholic Homes (VMCH), where she was involved in volunteering as part of the Duke of Edinburgh program. Shanya talks about what the experience meant to her and why young people should take opportunities to volunteer and especially give time to help in aged care.

"Recently the age care (VMCH) I volunteer at, asked me to be a part of an article for their student volunteer week. The article is designed to gain more people my age to volunteer in outer community."

Leadership Day

"On Monday the 21st of August, 8 year 11 students were given the opportunity to represent Huntingtower at the Ecumenical Leadership Program. This program connected us with like-minded students from schools all around Victoria, and even New South Wales. Nihar, Kai, Sanula, Daniel L, Shayanne, Chloe, Sinead and I were able to participate in this priceless experience, allowing us to reflect, learn and grow our leadership potential. We were able to listen to book author and adventurer, Tim Cope, awe inspiring story of being the first modern day man to traverse the arduous and extremely challenging journey following the Trail of Genghis Khan. This taught us not only the importance of developing attributes such as perseverance, confidence and commitment but also taught us to value all the connections we harbour in our day-to-day lives. Listening to his inspirational story allowed us to highlight leadership qualities and learn how we could apply them within our own community at Huntingtower."

"One of the most valuable experiences of the event was the ability to connect with other bright-minded students from across East-Australia. Getting to know these smart individuals allowed us to gain insights of the programs in other schools. This gave us a better understanding of the opportunities and culture we have at Huntingtower that may be taken for granted, but also prompted us to think of implementing changes or new ideas that may benefit our school community.

Moreover, the activities conducted by Project RockIt were thought provoking and encouraged our metacognitive thinking skills. We were able to outline some of the vital leadership qualities required as well as take a moment to think of our desired world and community that we aim to develop and live in."

A big thank you to Mr Smale for accompanying us on the day, and of course this opportunity was only possible due to the efforts of Mrs Rossiter who we also share our greatest gratitude towards.
