EISM Chess

Our Middle Years and Open Secondary chess teams once again easily won their respective EISM chess tournaments.

Top players were:

Seniors: Jackie L (7/7); Rey D (7/7); Cheng-Yu H (6/7)

Middle Years: Benny C (7/7); Lin W (7/7); Hirun S (6.5/7)

Because this competition was not as challenging as others we’ve played this year, it gave us a wonderful opportunity to blood some new players like Vasilei P (3/7) and play some of our girls who wouldn’t normally make the school team.

Girls: Amanda L (4.5/7); Mackenzie L (3.5/7); Odessa B-M (3/7) and Catherine H (3/7)

Worldskills Australia National Championships

Celebrating Excellence - VET Information Technology

Huntingtower had three students representing Victoria in the 2023 Worldskills National Championships held in Melbourne last week. We are delighted to announce that Bettina S and Emmanuel L were awarded gold and silver medals respectively in the VETiS Information Technology category. We also had Caitlin C who was awarded a Certificate of Excellence.

The championships showcased the remarkable achievement of young professionals in various trades and skills from around Australia. The students participated in challenges that tested their technical expertise, creativity and problem-solving skills over the 3-day competition. They competently applied the knowledge and skills gleaned from their studies of VCE VET Certificate III Information Technology which they completed in 2022.

Congratulations must also go to Mrs Hender, who was appointed as a Victorian Team Leader, and supported the students throughout the competition and in many training sessions leading up to the event.

There is also a recording of the Closing Ceremony with Bettina and Emmanuel featured at approx the 2hr 09 mark. The recording is found at https://youtu.be/3PHgGASD954

Mingyao Z (Year 10)

Mingyao Zhang Y10 recently represented Victoria in School Sport Australia 16 Years and Under Hockey Championship 12-19th Aug in Adelaide. Victorian boys fought hard in a goal for goal bronze medal match but unfortunately lost 4:5 to SA in the last two minutes. Mingyao has learnt a lot and enjoyed the tournament that will help him to pursue to play higher level of hockey. Well done!
