Junior School

From the Head of Junior School

Book week was a huge success this year, with students all diving into literature through the Book Fair, Book Parade, Multi Age activity day and culminating in a visit from the children’s author Katrina Nannestad. Many thanks to our wonderful librarian, Ms Knight for her hard work and dedication putting these events together.

Our two amazing Tournament of Minds teams presented their problem solutions at the regional competition last weekend. Both teams were well prepared with a very creative solution and an entertaining performance. They represented Huntingtower extremely well. Congratulations to the Language Literature team for being awarded honours. We thank Ms Wallace and Mrs Bateman for giving up so much of their time to prepare the teams thoroughly.

Our Foundation class enjoyed a lovely day at Myuna Farm on Thursday, learning all about farm life and farm animals.

On Friday our four Interschool Debating teams competed in a competition against a number of other schools. They prepared and practised their debates well and enjoyed a number of lively debates on several topics.

Everyone is busily preparing for the musical extravaganza- ‘Cats’.Make sure that you book tickets for your family and friends. It’s certain to be a show you don’t want to miss!

Grade 2 Pencil Sculptures

Our wonderful Grade 2 students have recently completed their larger than life pencil sculptures. Using paper mache and acrylic paint, students created their pencils and had fun choosing a colour name. Well done Grade 2s – a lot of hard work and patience went into this project and they look fantastic. Mrs Nix

YEAR 5 & 6 - TOURNAMENT OF MINDS CHALLANGE

Year 5 & 6 students competed in the Tournament of Minds Challenge last Saturday. Their task was to create an immersive art experience for an International Arts Committee. They needed to research an artwork, explain the significance of it and why it should be included. Our students chose MC Escher and produced an amazing ‘tunnel of art’ along with a rap, dance, and story on the artist.  A fantastic effort!
