LOTE

Kii, Deadly TPS community, biladu-njan wat/how are you all? And in the words of my Yawuru language...Ngaji gurrjin/Hello everyone!

Foundation

Students have been learning/revising Woiwurrung body part nouns used in the ‘Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes (feet)’ song; some colour words; numbers 1-5. They continue to learn the sounds of Woiwurrung through hearing the language modelled, with lots of oral practice through repetition, games and songs, to develop correct pronunciation.

Years 1-6

Students have continued to strengthen their knowledge of the Woiwurrung body part nouns which they have been learning (1-2 students: 16 words, 3-4 students: 24 words; 5-6 students 32 words),  and the number words for 1-10. They have enjoyed playing a variety of games which help them to learn the words.

They have learned and practised introductions of self-and/or friends and telling their age, using the Woiwurrung number words.

Students continue to develop their understanding and knowledge of the Woiwurrung sound and spelling system and, depending on their grade level, the associated letter patterns used to write the sounds which they are learning. Students have enjoyed the different activities and games that challenge them to think about the Woiwurrung sound and spelling patterns. Students in 1-2 and 3-4 have also enjoyed using ‘Show Me' whiteboards to practise their Woiwurrung spelling and writing skills.

All students continue to practise greetings and introductions, basic conversation phrases and classroom commands, set for their year level.

Have a chat with your child/ren about what they are learning.

Twaganin (Woiwurrung) Galia (Yawuru) / See you later!
