From the Principal
The last couple of weeks have been particularly busy at TPS with a number of whole school and community events. Last Friday we had our Book Week dress-up day and assembly with a wide range of costumes, favourite characters and books represented. Thanks to Juliette, Matt and the student committee for their organisation of the assembly parade of characters.
On Thursday last week we celebrated Wear It Purple Day. The day aims to foster supportive, safe, empowering, and inclusive environments for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and gender diverse, intersex, queer and questioning (LGBTIQ+) young people, in accordance with the obligations in the Child Safe Standards to uphold diversity and equity for everyone regardless of their background, characteristics or beliefs. This is part of what schools do every day in creating an environment where all students feel welcome and can participate freely and equally in all areas of life. Thank you to the strong community support evidenced by the colourful display of purple across the school.
Two weeks ago, we had our annual NAIDOC day celebration. The day began with a breakfast provided by TPS staff. We were fortunate to have Wurundjeri elder Uncle Bill Nicholson giving a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony accompanied by informative stories and explanations of cultural artifacts and traditions of the Wurundjeri people. This was followed by a rotation of activities that centred around the theme ‘For Our Elders’. The day finished with a community barbeque. Congratulations to the school NAIDOC Day committee for their organisation of the day and to the Social Committee for their support with the community barbeque and other after-school activities.
Capital works - Toilet Upgrade/ school upgrade
The long-awaited toilet upgrade in the main building is due to commence over the September school holidays. The upgrade works are expected to be completed in early November. Temporary toilets will be located adjacent to the current toilets for the duration of the construction.
The design phase of the $17.6 million school upgrade is about to begin with the appointment of architects next week. A tender process run by the Victorian Schools Building Authority (VSBA) will appoint architects that can best encapsulate the vision, culture and direction of the school in their design process. Once the architects have been appointed, there will be a period of community consultation with the opportunity to have input into the design. I will provide regular updates on the process and opportunities to contribute.
2024 Planning
If you know of anyone who is considering enrolling at our school, please make sure they come to the office and complete an enrolment form. If you are considering leaving TPS at the end of 2024, please let the office or your child’s teacher know.
Ngoongodjin,
David
