Focus on Learning

Stage 3 - Mrs Bartholomew

Science, Science, Science!

This term in Stage 3 we have been studying our Physical World. This Physical Science Unit introduces students to a variety of contact and non-contact forces. Applied force, gravity, air resistance, buoyancy, tension and elastic force are explored in detail through many practical investigations, mostly in the context of space travel and ‘rocket science’.

Recently, students have been learning that forces can be described as a push or a pull and represented by an arrow in labelled diagrams. They understand that the force of gravity varies from planet to planet.

We carried out an experiment with rocket balloons to test forces and trajectory.

This week we constructed and launched a model rocket, investigating the 'thrust' force that occurs to enable rockets to escape the gravitational pull of earth and travel into space.

Here are some videos of our experiment!

Coolamon Challenge - Week 9

Congratulations to our winners from Week 8 - Jorja and Indi!  They received a voucher for a complimentary ice-cream courtesy of The Coolamon in Quirindi.

Please see below for this week's challenges: Spot the Difference again; it was a huge hit last week!

Nature Ninjas - our gardening club

We are finalising our harvest of the winter vegetables, tending to some lettuce, herbs and flowers we planted recently, as well as busily preparing our soil for spring planting. We are so excited to have some buds and fresh shoots happening in our garden; spring has sprung!  We have also planted a new batch of tomatoes, peas and varieties of lettuce.

Over the coming weeks we will also be planting various seeds, to propagate our own seedlings.  A big THANK YOU to the students who remain committed to this initiative.  Be sure to scroll across to see all of the photos from this week.
