Junior Secondary School

END SEMESTER 2 REPORTS
Reports will be emailed home by Friday the 12th of December. Please be sure to share the report with your child, so that they can receive important feedback on their work this year and set goals for 2026.
2026 CLASSES
The 2026 timetable has been constructed to provide maximum opportunities for students across PBC to study courses of choice, in our diverse school. Parents should be aware that, except for Academic Excellence classes, their child will be with a different group of students next year, please prepare to support them through this change. Coping with changes such as these are important for building resilience – an important quality for success in life. While there is no opportunity to swap classes due to friendships, the usual range of support will be available to all students and their parents to help them through this change.
2026 Year 9 students will have been placed in four of the six electives they listed. Both will be visible on the timetable but only two will be studied in semester one. Synergy classes from this year will have been adapted depending on student’s elective choices.
2026 Year 8 students will no longer remain in a single set class for the four core subjects, and in most cases, they will have different groupings for English and Maths. These changes are part of our school’s Synergy Learning model, used in Years 8 and 9 to better support student growth. As students' skills grow or need further development, they can move between classes at the beginning of new units. Teachers collaboratively review student progress and consider the skills required for the upcoming unit and can recommend changes to support this and changes are thoroughly considered. Parents are encouraged to support their child in developing resilience and readiness for any moves.
Care classes will remain the same for 2026 and where at all possible we have maintained the same teacher.
We welcome back our Year 7s on Tuesday January 27th 2026 and will meet in the Hall and Year 8, 9 and 10 will commence on Wednesday January 28th 2026.
GOOD LUCK YEAR 9
Farewell to our Year 9 cohort who are transitioning to the Senior Secondary Phase of Learning. Our very best wishes for continued success! A special mention to Ms Emma Norton and Ms Kate Patterson who have been the Heads of Year.
ACCESSIBLE ASSESSMENT – RESEARCH PROJECT
Our school is participating in a research project with Queensland University of Technology (QUT) to demonstrate the benefits of Accessible Assessment.
You can find out more about the original project which led to significant improvements in the engagement and achievement of students in three Queensland state secondary schools by watching this 5 min video: 5 Min Video
This year our school has been participating in this project by redesigning assessment task sheets to make them more accessible. Over time, your student will experience these new task sheets as we roll them out across the school.
Your student's views matter to us and the QUT team would like them to be part of this exciting research project!
To get involved, both you and your student need to consent, via the electronic survey link below. You will then be invited to complete two questionnaires.
Access the survey at this link: Survey
The QUT team needs as many students to participate as possible so that they can assess the effectiveness of the redesigned task sheets and make the changes that students identify.
Thank you for your help with this. We are excited to share the results with you once the project is complete.
