STEAM Update

It has been a busy term in STEAM!

Grade Prep have been exploring the life cycle of butterflies and found out that a caterpillar is in it's chrysalis for TWO WHOLE WEEKS! During this time they go through a process of change called Metamorphosis.

Grade 1 discovered the force of push and pull to create movement. They had a blast designing spinners using old DVDs, marbles and bottle caps. They also created some awesome domino runs that needed a push force to start, as long as the force of gravity didnt beat them to it.

Grade 2 explored four different artists (Mondrian, Kandinsky, Signac & Van Gough) to program a character to walk and talk through an art gallery created by them in Scratch Jnr.

BIG DAY IN JUNIOR

I also had the pleasure of taking some of our wonderful Grade 5 students to Hampton Primary School where they participated in the Big Day In Junior conference. Students participated in three inspiring workshops throughout the day. Students used Adobe Express to animate characters and add voices to them to really bring them alive. They helped the NAB bank to design a new banking app for young people to learn about responsible saving and spending. In small groups students drew plans for a device that would solve a problem at school during the ACS workshop. They had some awesome designs that helped push chairs in, deliver fresh cold filtered water to students at their desks and automatically adjusted the climate in the classroom. The students represented our school in a very mature manner, contributed ideas and opinions to the discussions and displayed Skye Values all day day long. thankyou to all students for making the excurion an extremely wonderful day.
