Connect: Year 5

Welcome to Term 4 Week 8.
It is a busy time for our Grade Five students. In preparation for Grade Six they have completed their leadership survey and are now preparing for group interviews.
5B has a pre service teacher for the next 2 weeks, Miss Pullen. She will be helping out in the classroom as well as teaching lessons.
Dates to Remember
17th December - Final Assembly
3rd December - Community picnic
Numeracy
For numeracy our focus is rounding. Students will be explicitly taught to round using subtraction, addition, multiplication and division. They will then determine the most efficient way of rounding in relation to the actual answer. Students will apply rounding to real life situations.
Literacy
For the next 2 weeks our focus will be poetry. Students will analyse the literacy devices used in poetry, explore sentence structure and to conclude, write their own poem.
Wellbeing
During our Wellbeing lessons students will explore positive and negative use of power in relationships, what it means to be a bystander and help seeking. Traditional gender roles will be explored prompting discussions around how these have changed and the impact they have. They will develop strategies to succeed when learning is challenging and how to overcome speed humps.
Inquiry
Students will explore solids, liquids and gasses. They will appreciate the way that scientists and engineers have used their understanding of chemistry to develop solutions to solve problems.
Thank you for your continued support over the year.
Krystal and Jenny.
