What's happening in our classroom?
Literacy
In Literacy, Year 4 students have continued reading The Wild Robot and remain very engaged with the story. We are aiming to finish reading the story together over the final weeks of term and hope to watch the movie together as a celebration.
This term we will be learning about persuasive writing inspired by 'The Wild Robot'. Students will craft letters that include clear arguments, supporting details and persuasive language to express a point of view. Students have completed their introductions and body paragraphs for their persuasive letter. This week we will be completing our conclusions.
Numeracy
In Maths, Year 4 students have begun their unit on division. They have been using arrays and hands-on materials to divide by one-digit numbers and build a strong understanding of how division works. Students are also learning to use the division algorithm with no regrouping to solve problems efficiently. In addition, they have been practising solving division worded problems by identifying key information and choosing the correct strategy.
Inquiry - Changes to Earth's Surface
This Term in Inquiry, students will learn about the changes that occur to Earth's surface over time as a result of wind, water and human activity. They will make models to explore and simulate water and wind erosion. Students will become 'erosion detectives' as they look for evidence of erosion and consider possible causes. They will learn about where sand comes from and how to prevent coastal erosion by designing a solution using craft and natural materials.
Through a deeper understanding of how Earth's surface changes over time students will better appreciate the beauty and complexity of our planet and the importance of protecting it.

Prep Fun!
On Wednesday our Year 4 students spent the morning with Prep D and Prep E students making craft and reading together. It was such a great chance for our older students to demonstrate their patience and leadership as they now become the senior students in our school.
