Literacy

We are doing really well with learning our Stage 7.1 sounds! During this stage, we focused on words with the “igh” sound. Some of the words we practiced include:

high, night, light, bright, right, fight, sight, tight, might

These words help children recognise and use the “igh” sound in their reading and writing, building their confidence with tricky vowel sounds.

We also learnt about the -y and ie sounds. These sounds often appear at the end of words to make the long “i” sound. Some examples of words we practised include:

-y words: cry, fry, fly ie words: pie, tie, lie, cried

Learning these patterns helps children recognize common spelling rules and improves their reading and writing skills.

Mathematics

In Maths, we have been comparing and ordering two-digit numbers using hands-on materials. The children have been exploring which numbers are bigger or smaller and arranging them in order, which helps them understand number relationships in a fun and visual way.

We are also solving place value problems with reasoning. This means the children are thinking carefully about the value of each digit in a number and explaining their answers. They have been detecting errors in place value representations and explaining their reasoning. These activities help build strong number sense and problem-solving skills.

Inquiry

In our unit Our Sustainable World, we learned about various foods that support and sustain different parts of the body. We also sang the song “Heads, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes.” Here is the link to the song. Additionally, we discussed how all parts of our bodies grow and change as we get older.

Wellbeing

In Wellbeing, we are supporting children as they transition to becoming Grade One students. We have been helping children develop confidence, independence, and resilience as they prepare for the next stage of their learning journey. We are proud of the way they are embracing new challenges and supporting one another as they take these important steps towards Grade One.
