Year Four Team

Term 4 in Year 4!

Term 4 has been a jam-packed term filled with lots of exciting events for our students. We kicked things off with our colour run which was a huge success and lots of fun. Grandparents day allowed students to show off their learning spaces and participate in different activities with their grandparents or special people. Last week, students participated in a Water Safety day at Aspendale beach where they practised a range of important water safety skills. They learned how to read and understand beach safety signs, how to call for help in an emergency, and were introduced to the basics of CPR. We also discussed safe ways to support someone who may be stuck or in danger in the water.

In Mathematics, students have been deepening their understanding across several areas. As part of our Statistics unit, they engaged in statistical investigations by testing the best strategies to “win” various games and reflected on whether their predictions were accurate. Students also enjoyed designing their own arcade-style games for chance and probability, by making sure the likelihood of each prize matched a specific probability outcome. Within our Multiplication and Division unit, students explored different strategies for solving larger multiplication problems and built stronger connections between multiplication and division.

Our English and History learning has been closely connected throughout this term. Students read Convict Boy and were thoroughly engaged in learning about life in England and Australia before the 1800s. They learnt about the experiences of those on the First Fleet while identifying similarities and differences between cultures and time periods. We were extremely proud of the way students demonstrated their curiosity and engagement through asking clarifying questions, contributing thoughtfully to class discussions and attempting high level reading responses. In addition to this, students developed their research skills while exploring Indigenous cultures, using their findings to create informative and persuasive texts. They experimented with different text structures within Writing and organised their ideas into clear, well-sequenced paragraphs.

We are super impressed by the effort and commitment our Year 4’s have shown throughout the term. It has been wonderful to see their effort and confidence grow.
