Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

YEAR 3B - COOKING IN THE KITCHEN

On Monday, students in 3B had the opportunity to take part in a cooking session.

Working together, they prepared a cauliflower and chickpea curryalong with homemade Indian flatbread. This wonderful experience was made possible thanks to the support of parent helpers Susan and Ebony — thank you both for your help.

We are also excited to share that our school has been successful in securing a start-up grant to launch a Kitchen Garden program in 2026. Staytuned for more updates!

MELBOURNE INDIGENOUS TRANSITION SCHOOL (MITS) SCHOLARSHIP

The Melbourne Indigenous Transition School (MITS) provides a unique opportunity for Indigenous students from remote and regional communities to access high-quality educational pathways in Melbourne. The MITS Scholarship supports students through a dedicated Year 7 transition program, which includes small-group learning, personalised academic support, and culturally safe boarding facilities.

Following this transition year, the scholarship continues to assist students as they move into partner secondary schools by helping cover boarding fees, school tuition, uniforms, books, and other essential school costs. MITS also provides ongoing wellbeing support and mentoring to ensure students feel confident, connected, and supported throughout their schooling journey.

We are incredibly proud as a school to celebrate Kaley Grayson who has been awarded a MITS Scholarship. This is a wonderful achievement and an exciting opportunity for their future. Here are a few words written by Kaley.

“Last year Gina Mills mentioned to me about the Melbourne Indigenous Transition School (MITS). She gave me a sheet about how to apply and the information. At first, I wasn’t really sure if I would get in, but I applied anyway. I thought it was a great opportunity to apply for the school. This year I received the application sheet in term three, I got asked to answer maths, social life and writing questions. Late in term three, I got invited by MITS to get interviewed at the boarding house. I got a tour and run through of how life will be at MITS. I met most of the teachers and I even got to see my dorm room. My class is located in a MITS building and at the Richmond football club. My orientation day is in Darwin on the 30th of January 2026. I feel this school will help my football career and bring me closer to my culture. I can’t wait to have a great year at MITS” – Kaley Grayson

This scholarship aims to empower young people to thrive academically and personally while maintaining strong ties to their culture, community, and identity.

Congratulations Kaley on this outstanding achievement. We can’t wait to see you on the field one day!

BUILDING LANGUAGE LEADERS

On Tuesday 18th November, 20 of our Year 4 and 5 students participated in a "Building Languages Leaders" workshop facilitated by the VLT (Victorian Languages Teachers) association. These students received coaching in leading the promotion of language learning in the school and were taught some games and activities in Japanese which they then taught to the entire Year 2 cohort.

The Year 2 students really enjoyed being mentored by the older students and the Year 4 and 5 said they felt proud to be able to teach the younger students in Japanese. These students will continue to be involved in a range of activities to promote and lead language learning in the school as they move into Year 5/6 next year.

A big thank you to all the students involved, Ms Hann and the Year 2, 4 and 5 teachers who supported Mrs Webster in making this event possible.

SOMERS CAMP 2026 - A FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY FOR CURRENT YEAR 4 AND 5 STUDENTS

Years 5–6 students from across the district are invited to express their interest in attending Somers Camp, which will run from 24th February to 4th March 2026.

At this stage, we are unsure how many students will be offered the opportunity to attend from Warrnambool Primary.

Students interested in attending need to return an Expression of Interest Form to the school office by Tuesday 25th November.

Somers Camp is a nine-day commitment, and as such, we ask that you only fill in the expression of interest form if your child can attend without concerns around sports or family commitments.

This camp is an additional opportunity for students and does not replace the planned Sovereign Hill or Melbourne Camps for Years 5–6.

Selection will be made by a draw, however, student conduct at school will be considered if selected.

If you have any questions, please contact Ms Stephanie Hann via Compass.

GOVEMBER

Everyone is getting in the Govember spirit. As a collective we ran, walked, cycled, swam and paddled nearly 8000 km in the first two weeks.

We are on track to reach our target of 14000km in the month of November. We cannot impress upon everyone the need to get up and get moving while you can.

It is great for the body and mind.
