Netball Victoria School Championships

On Friday 8th August, ten enthusiastic students proudly represented ENPS at the Netball Victoria School Championships held at the State Netball and Hockey Centre in Parkville. The team was coached and supported by Amy Wirth and myself, as we guided the players through a busy and competitive day of netball.
Over the course of the day, the team played seven games, achieving one win, one draw and several closely contested matches. While the results varied, what stood out most was the spirit in which our students played, showing determination, resilience, and above all, excellent sportsmanship towards both their teammates and their opponents.
We are incredibly grateful to the parents who came along to support the team. Their encouragement from the sidelines, help with scoring duties, providing oranges for an energy hit, not to mention a coffee run for the staff, made a huge difference to the day. A special thank you also goes to Zoe Hill who stepped in to umpire at the tournament on behalf of ENPS.
Our weekly lunchtime training sessions played a key role in our preparation, and we’d like to give a shoutout to our training partners who, despite not being selected for the final team, continued to attend and contribute. Their commitment and enthusiasm not only supported the team’s development, but also demonstrated great sportsmanship.
We look forward to building on this experience and exploring future opportunities for an ENPS netball team in 2026.
Student Highlights
Mila (5AC)
This year, I heard about the school netball championships and I wrote a letter asking if our school could enter in the competition. The teachers read my letter and agreed to enter a team. After competitive trials, a team of ten was chosen including both boys and girls from Years Five and Six. I really enjoyed the training leading up to this day because we got to do lots of different drills and played lots of games. On the day we were coached by Miss Stephens and Miss Wirth. We played seven games, some were harder than others but we still tried our best. I loved playing with different people and playing different positions, my personal favourite was WA. In the end, I had a really great time playing the games and doing the training that led up to this amazing opportunity.
Alexander (5JM)
I competed despite never playing a game of netball in my life! I loved learning skills that I would have never learned by not playing in this tournament. I loved using my basketball skills that translated to netball. I also loved the satisfaction of winning 17-0 against Strathmore North PS.
Mia (6MP)
My favourite part was having fun with all my teammates, coming up against different schools and developing my skills and learning how to play. Even though I had never played before Miss Stephens and Miss Wirth helped me gain skills and knowledge on netball.
Aria (6ZD)
My favourite part was getting to know everyone and bond with my teammates. Even though we didn’t win every game, we still all had a lot of fun. Lunchtime netball trainings were my favourite!
Georgia (5AC)
My favourite part of the day was being able to play competitive netball games with my friends and teammates. Also I loved playing in GA and WA with Mila and I was so happy when Ms Gallagher came to visit with her adorable baby Matilda. Overall I had a great day and hope to have more opportunities for a netball team in the years to come.
Ethan (5RZ)
I loved playing GD and WD. I learned how to pass the ball with shoulder passes, chest passes and bounce passes. I enjoyed being in the ENPS netball team and being able to collaborate with others.
Archie (6JD)
The best part of the day was winning a game! We also had a draw one, then lost a few others.
Sophie (5JM)
Friday was so much fun! I loved playing and training with our team and learning new skills. It was great to get the win against Strathmore North 17-0. Thanks to Miss Stephens and Miss Wirth for their support.
Cedar (6JD)
The netball tournament was great fun because we won a game and drew one.
Some familiar faces popped into the netball too! We thank Mrs Groves, Miss Gallagher and baby Matilda for their support.
