Beyond the Bell

What’s Been Going On Beyond the Classroom?

This term, many of our students have been involved in academic challenges that extend their learning beyond everyday lessons. These experiences encourage problem-solving, creativity, teamwork, and critical thinking - while also giving students a chance to explore areas of personal interest.

Across the past few weeks, students have been representing our school in the Maths Talent Quest, Science Talent Search, and ICAS competitions - three opportunities that celebrate curiosity, persistence, and a love of learning.

Maths Talent Quest

In the Maths Talent Quest, students explored real-world problems using mathematics, presenting their solutions with clear data, graphs, and creative reasoning. From investigating patterns to modelling solutions, their work showed how maths can be practical, inventive, and fun.

Stage One Achievements

Congratulations to the following students who have successfully progressed through Stage One of the Maths Talent Quest:

Year One – Mitchell, Xavi

Year Two – Elisha, James, Hrik

Science Talent Search – 2025 Entries

The Science Talent Search (STS), coordinated by the Science Teachers’ Association of Victoria, inspires students to explore scientific ideas through hands-on investigations, creative presentations, and real-world problem solving.

This year, our students proudly entered the following sections:

  • Experimental Research – Designing and conducting their own investigations, collecting data, and drawing conclusions based on evidence.

  • Games – Creating engaging and educational games that teach scientific concepts in fun, interactive ways.

  • Posters – Visually presenting science topics with clear explanations and eye-catching designs.

  • Computer Programs – Developing interactive programs or simulations to model scientific ideas or solve problems.

  • Working Models – Building practical, hands-on models to show how something works or to demonstrate a concept.

  • Photography – Capturing real-world science in action through original photographs.

  • Creative Writing – Using storytelling to share scientific ideas and inspire curiosity in others.

Congratulations to Our STS Participants:

Foundation – Anaisha

Year One – Aria

Year Two – Kate, Ziana, Elisha, James, Ryder, Hrik, Lucy, Ally, Aaliyah

Year Three – Dilein, Ashlynn, Armin, Harrison, Eshan

Well done to all students for your creativity, hard work, and enthusiasm in exploring and presenting science this year.

ICAS Competitions Underway

Our ICAS season is now in progress! This week, students completed the English assessment. In Week Five, we will run both the Science ICAS and the ICAS Spelling Bee. Then, in Week Six, it will be time for the Mathematics ICAS - a chance for students to challenge themselves in an international academic competition.

Looking Ahead

Stay tuned - we look forward to sharing their results and achievements soon!
