Visual Arts

What’s happening in the Visual Arts room?

FHM and FTW art exploring painting and printing using a variety of different materials. They have been inquiring into Portraits and Self Portraits looking closely at the most famous of all – The Mona Lisa.

Students in 1NV, 1MH and 2MT are looking closely at two artists, Kandinsky and Kusama, and inquiring into their similarities and differences, creating a collage to show their understanding.

For the past few weeks, students in 3AC, 3JK, 4CG and 4IW have been inquiring about famous artist, Yayoi Kusama – AKA, The Princess of Polka Dots. They have discovered that although Yayoi Kusama (aged 95!!!) makes lots of different types of art – paintings, sculptures, performances and installations – she has become known for the one thing they have in common, DOTS!

Students in Years 5JM and 5RZ have been channelling their inner film director, creating some amazing stop motion productions. Beginning with the initial ideas and then planning out the stories onto Storyboards, students are working individually or in teams designing, creating and bringing to life amazing characters that they have made using self-selected materials found in the art room, such as figures made from foil or modelling clay, or items brought in from home.

Finally, 6AI and 6ZD have just finished creating their part of our Year Six cohort Legacy Piece, creating a clay sculpture symbolic of themselves. Each sculpture will form part of a Year Six cohort mosaic to be revealed at the end of the year.
