Partnering in Your Child's Learning: The IB Primary Years Programme at Highton PS
As a parent at Highton Primary School, you are a vital part of our learning community, helping your child grow through the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP).
The PYP curriculum is built around key concepts—big ideas that are timeless, universal, and connect different subjects. Think of these concepts as the "big picture" or a special lens through which your child explores each topic. Instead of just learning isolated facts, they learn to see patterns and make connections, helping them better understand the world.
You can play an active role in deepening your child's understanding. As a parent in the PYP, asking questions and having conversations that encourage "big picture" thinking can make a huge difference. For example, you can talk about concepts like change, responsibility, or connection as they relate to everyday life.
