Science News....

Foundation

We headed to the school garden recently to make observations using our 5 senses. The children explored the space and then recorded what they experienced.

Grade 1

We’ve been busy in the science kitchen combing ingredients to make something new. By making honey joys, oat balls and chocolate crackles we learnt that the food we make can have different properties from the ingredients we started with.

In the OASIS garden we combined materials to make a mixture and practised recording our findings as labelled drawings.

Grade 2

We have been exploring how materials can change. We created ‘paper towel worms’ and added water to them, watching as they expanded, changed shape and moved around. We learned that some materials, like paper towel, absorb water and change as a result.

Grade 4

We have been exploring the forces of gravity and air resistance, by investigating how parachutes move through the air. We observed how gravity pulls objects towards the ground, while air resistance slows them down. It was a fun, hands on way to see how forces affect motion.
