Project Compassion
In the third week of Lent we hear the story of Monoranjon from Bangladesh.
Monoranjon lives in a village in Bangladesh close to the sea, where floods and storms often damage his crops and his home. With support from Project Compassion, he learnt climate-resilient farming techniques and new ways to diversify his income, helping his family survive and build a safer, more sustainable future.
‘Getting this training from Caritas, I am very happy. In my personal training and with the help of them I have learned a lot,’ Monoranjon said.

Each student received a Project Compassion coin box as an invitation to find ways to give a little; maybe by taking on a household chore or giving up something for the season of Lent and putting that money towards Project Compassion.
How do donate:
- Project Compassion Coin Boxes
- St. Therese's Project Compassion Fundraising Page
Week of Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving
In week 9 the students will participate in a week of activities aimed at raising awareness of the expereinces of those communities Caritas Australia supports around the world, and making connections between Project Compassion and the spiritual traditions of Lent.
The week will involve the following:
- Day of Prayer
- Each hour, the students will pause for 1 minute to pray a part of the 2026 Project Compassion Prayer. By the end of the day they will have prayed for the most vulnerable of our world and reflected on ways we can support them.
- Day of Fasting
- Each class will chose an item to collectively go without for the duration of the school day.
- This is as an act of Solidarity with all those who do not have access to the educational settings and resources we have in Australia. It connects with the Lenten practice of fasting, which reminds us of reliance on our heavenly father.
- Day of Almsgiving
- Each room will receive 40 small acts of kindness to attempt to complete in the school day. The 40 acts remind us of the 40 days of Lent, and the time Jesus spent in the wilderness. The acts of kindness are a small way we can give of ourselves this Lent, and share Christ's love with all.
Coin Line Competition and Casual Clothes Day
Monday 30th of March we are having a Casual Clothes Day to raise money for Project Compassion. We ask for a gold coin donation (or equivielant in small change) for Caritas Australia.
The casual clothes day will be accompanied with a coin line competition. The students are asked to return any project compassion money boxes donations to be included in the class coin line and to then pass these donations on to Caritas Australia.
