Day

Our recent Swimming Carnival at the Koo Wee Rup Pool was a fantastic day filled with lots of energy, enthusiasm and plenty of team spirit.

Students competed in a range of events across boys’ and girls’ divisions, showcasing their skills in freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. It was amazing to see so many students getting involved - whether competing for a place to win house points, supporting their friends/teammates, or simply enjoying the day and building on strengthening relationships with each other and staff.

One of the highlights of the day was the much-anticipated 'Teachers vs Students' replay race, which brought plenty friendly rivalry and very loud cheering for the sidelines. It was wonderful seeing both staff and students be involved in what will hopefully become a Birranga tradition.

In addition to the competitive races, students also took part in a variety of fun and team-building events, encouraging participation, communication, cooperation and house pride.

"On the 25th of February 2026, we had Birranga College’s first swimming carnival. On the day of the event many students swam in the different races. There was freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, a staff vs student relay and two novelty events at the end. One thing we all enjoyed was seeing everyone cheering on and encouraging each other. We cheered like our lives depended on It. We also really liked when someone in our houses won a race. Overall, it was a super fun and supportive way to start our schools very first swimming carnival and connection day." Trisha 7C

Connection Activities

Students completed various activities including team building challenges, learning communication and strategy, as well as team relay races on the foreshore of Tooradin.

Well done to 7D who were able to complete the tarp challenge, working as a united team. Students also spent some time learning the history of the Indigenous people in the area, they began to understand the connection with this history and our shell logo and compete a fun art task. We finished off the day with a chilly zooper dooper treat.

House and individual student points were awarded during our time in Tooradin and will be added to the overall Birranga College House Cup competition.

A big thank you to all our staff who supported the successful running of our first swimming sports and connection day.

"All Birranga College students began our first Connection Day by enjoying lunch together before walking to the site where Aboriginal people once swam and collected Oyster Shells. We also decorated leaves by painting them inspired by indigenous art works and learned about the cultural significance of the area. After exploring the site, everyone returned to where we had eaten our lunch and participated in a bunch of group activities. My class played Tunnel Ball first and we unfortunately lost but we did better in Hula Hoop Pass and we won. We did a team problem solving challenge which was challenging but fun. At the end of our fun activities, we all got icy poles, which was a refreshing way to finish our day."
