What a wonderful start we have had here at Birranga College! Our recent Swimming Carnival and Connection Day were a true testament to the spirit of community that defines our college — students came together with enthusiasm, laughter, and genuine care for one another, embodying our core value of Belong in the most meaningful way. We were equally proud of the outstanding manner in which our students conducted themselves during the visit from the Deputy Premier; their maturity, respect, and confidence were a credit to themselves, their families, and our college community, and a powerful reminder that when young people Believe in themselves, they rise to every occasion. Behind all of this lies the tireless dedication of our staff, who continue to design and deliver a rigorous and engaging curriculum that challenges every student to grow, to strive, and to Become the very best version of themselves. As we move through the term together, I am inspired by what our students and staff are achieving and I look forward to sharing more of these moments with you.
BUILDING OUR COMMUNITY AND IDENTITY COMMITTEE
At Birranga College, we are proud to be a vibrant, multicultural community where every family belongs, every voice is valued, and every culture enriches our collective experience. Our school values of Belong, Believe, and Become guide everything we do as we cultivate compassionate hearts, curious minds, and confident leaders.
We are excited to invite you to express your interest in joining our Building our Community and Identity committee - a group dedicated to celebrating and strengthening the beautiful diversity that makes Birranga College special.
ABOUT THE COMMITTEE
This committee plays a vital role in ensuring our school remains a welcoming, inclusive space where all cultures - including our Indigenous culture - are respected, celebrated, and woven into the fabric of our school life. Together, we will:
- Value and celebrate cultural diversity across our school community
- Preserve the integrity of our college values: Belong, Believe, Become
- Recognise and honour what makes each of us unique
- Develop culturally inclusive practices in our teaching and learning
- Raise awareness and promote reconciliation with Indigenous culture
- Create opportunities to celebrate cultural events and traditions
- Foster mutual respect, harmony, and equity for all
HOW THE COMMITTEE FUNCTIONS
The committee meets regularly to review current practices, plan cultural celebrations, and ensure our school environment reflects and honours our diverse community. Members contribute ideas, provide cultural perspectives, and help guide initiatives that strengthen our sense of belonging.
YOUR INVOLVEMENT
We welcome parents and carers from all cultural backgrounds who are passionate about building an inclusive school community. Your involvement might include:

Online Safety & Responsible Technology Use
A reminder that the use of technology at the College must used in accordance with our digital technology policy and used for educational purposes and responsibly. We have had some reports that students may have VPNs downloaded on their devices. Use of VPNs at school is a breach of our Digital Technology Policy, as VPNs can bypass network restrictions and safety filters. We ask families to check the device of their young person to limit students accessing inappropriate sites and information at school and at home.
Additionally, we encourage families to continuously speak with their child about safe and respectful online behaviour, including accessing chat rooms, being kind when using group chats with peers and on social media platforms. Working together helps us maintain a safe digital environment for all students.
