International Women’s Day

Tarneit Senior College marked International Women's Day with a vibrant series of student-led initiatives, bringing the school community together to celebrate, reflect, and contribute to a global movement focused on women’s equality.
Throughout the week, students and staff were invited to engage in activities highlighting the significance of the day. Opportunities were provided for students to write affirmations recognising the women and girls in their lives, alongside the distribution of International Women’s Day ribbons. The traditional colours - purple, green, and white - trace back to the Women's Social and Political Union, symbolising justice and dignity, hope, and unity of purpose.
A standout feature of this year’s celebration was an initiative led by Year 11 VM Numeracy students, who designed and delivered a fundraising event in support of Girls from Oz, an organisation dedicated to improving the wellbeing, education, and future pathways of girls and young women in remote Australia.
Through careful planning and collaboration, students prepared a range of items including baked goods and curated care packs, while also organising interactive activities such as sports competitions and a raffle. Their efforts created a lively and inclusive atmosphere, encouraging broad participation across the school. The students raised over $600!
International Women’s Day at the College continues to be an important opportunity not only to celebrate achievements, but also to reaffirm a shared commitment to equity and inclusion. The enthusiasm and leadership demonstrated by students this year exemplify the role young people play in driving meaningful change within their communities.
