PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

The Moorabbin Primary School Community touch the land and think of the Bunurong People and surrounding Clans of the Kulin Nation who cared for the land before us.

We share our gratitude to their Elders past, present and emerging.  As we touch this land, we promise to treasure it, taking care of all its people, animals, plants and waterways. We at Moorabbin Primary School appreciate this land. Thank you.

Dear Families, carers, and friends of Moorabbin PS,

AUBURN SOUTH PRIMARY SCHOOL TRAGEDY

Our heartfelt condolences go to the Auburn South Primary School community, as they navigate their grief and begin the difficult journey of recovery after the tragic death of a student this week. I can’t even imagine the trauma and loss they are currently experiencing.

If you find this incident has raised issues for you or your family, you might find the below links helpful:

Please also do not hesitate to contact any of our staff should you need to if this incident has impacted you, your family, or children in any way.

It is also a good reminder to us all the importance of driving safely and carefully around our school, during pick up and drop off times. Taking time and abiding by rules ensures everyone's safety. Our community has also experienced 2 significant student accidents with cars over the last couple of weeks, 4 near misses along with 5 incidents to staff and parent cars where cars have been damaged, and drivers have left the scene each time.

We need to show patience and kindness!

I urge all our parents and carers to please, please, please park and drive safely and to do so within the rules that are in place for the safety of all our children and community members. Mr Corrigan’s message on Wednesday stated we all need to remind our children about the importance of crossing the roads at pedestrian crossings, obeying traffic signals, the importance of wearing a helmet when riding a bike or scooter and paying attention to their surroundings. I cannot stress and reiterate this message enough.

EVIDENCE OF LEARNING

Students have started to undertake a range of assessments across all areas of the curriculum. Not only are they a chance to celebrate their learning over time, it is also a chance for teachers to collect and use the data to make informed judgments about their progress. During this period, take some time to check in with your child, encourage them to try their best, and remind them that some tasks may be challenging. Staying positive and celebrating their efforts is essential for our young learners, as it helps them develop resilience and coping skills.

These assessments, along with teacher observations and work samples, will be used to support the writing of student reports.

HAPPY DIWALI

Diwali, or the Festival of Lights, is an important holiday in the Hindu calendar that symbolises the victory of light over dark and good over evil. Diwali's celebrations typically take place over the course of five days, with each day having its own special meaning. To all our families celebrating. May this Diwali bring warmth, happiness, and prosperity to you and your families.

PUPIL FREE DAY MONDAY 4TH NOVEMBER

A last reminder that next week is a very short week at MPS. We have our curriculum day on Monday where staff will be spending time analysing data, planning and reporting. On Tuesday there is a public holiday. We look forward to seeing you all rested and refreshed from this extra-long weekend next Wednesday 6th November.

Have a great (long!) weekend everyone.
