Principal's News

Dear Parents & Parishioners,

OHR Spring Carnival School Fete

Saturday's weather was nothing short of spectacular which added to the fantastic atmposhere that permeated the Spring Carnival Fete.  The work that the organising committee had put into the event was evident throughout the entire day.  Visitors and families were greeted with colourful bunting, welcome signs and balloon garlands. The stalls, both outside and inside, looked spectacular and reflected the enormous effort that had gone into their planning and preparation.  In addition to those staffing the stalls there were many other parents that looked after the logistics, from the Friday set up through to the Saturday pack up, followed by the final Sunday clean up.

Our extremely generous sponsors should be acknowledged for the generous contributions made. I encourage you to consider our sponsors whenever you have a need that they could potentially fulfil. It’s important to note that some of these sponsors are school families.  Whenever you seek the services of our sponsors, let them know that you are from OHR; such a simple gesture will acknowledge their significant support.  Make sure that you view the list of these sponsors further in the Newsletter.

Throughout Saturday it was apparent that our well-promoted Spring Carnival Fete drew in enormous crowds throughout the day, with many coming from beyond our immediate school community. It was great to welcome a number of families with children commencing school at OHR next year, not to mention those families of children in local three year old kinders.  Pedestrian traffic was constant throughout the day.  The sense of our school community coming together for a common cause was noticeably apparent. It is always a great sign of pride in, and connectedness to, the school when past families and students return and take the time to socialise and linger.

Thank you to the following parents who have worked diligently and with great generosity to support the school over the past seven months, including: Ryan Davis, Julia Buchanan, Emma Caldwell, Ben Brockhurst, Natasha O'Hanlon, Hannah Fitzgerald, Sharmila Moreland, Amy Roman and Linnea Reddie.  There are many others, too numerous to list, but your contribution either during the lead up to, on the day of, or post Spring Carnival Fete is genuinely appreciated.

Make sure that you refer to the PFA News page for details of the fete's profit and where the money will be allocated.

Auburn South Primary School

Our heartfelt condolences to all those associated with Auburn South Primary School on the loss of one of their beloved students on Tuesday afternoon.  As parents, I know we  all felt and shared in the pain of Jack's parents and those of the other injured students. Needless to say, this will be a tremendously difficult time for the Principal, staff, parents and students of Auburn South Primary.

This tragic event is a constant reminder of the care and vigilance we must all observe and respect when behind the wheel near our school and any other for that matter.

2025 Parent Gatherings

As has become an OHR tradition, we invite families to open up their homes to host one of three parent gatherings that are spaced throughout Term One on Friday evenings.  These are warm and low key social events.  All Parent Gatherings were very well-attended earlier this year.

We have currently set aside three dates for 2025:

  • Prep - Yr 2 Parent Evening: 21 February 2025
  • Yrs 3 & 4 Parent Evening: 14 March 2025
  • Yrs 5 & 6 Parent Evening: 28 March 2025

If interested in hosting one of these evenings, please let either Heather or myself know.

Parish of Our Lady of Pentecost

This Saturday, 26 October, the new Parish of Our Lady of Pentecost will come into being. On the eve of this historic occasion, it is worth pausing to reflect on how and why this new Parish has come about. There are very practical, sociological and historical reasons for this move. There are also theological and ecclesiological reasons. Let's reflect on each of these.
