Welcome back to Term 4. I hope all our St Francis Xavier families had a restful and joyful break.
Congratulations to the students in Year 6 who were conferred with the Sacrament of Confirmation on Friday night. Bishop Danny Meagher made special mention of how reverent and well prepared the candidates were. It was lovely to witness the students who were not receiving the sacrament in the way they actively supported their peers' preparation during their Confirmation Reflection Day on Wednesday.
Thank you to the parents who brought their children to participate in the school choir. Bishop Danny loved their singing and made special mention of how important and special their presence was in the Church on Friday evening.
Thank you to Fr Richard for his guidance in preparing the candidates and for Mrs Barbera, Mr Criniti and Mrs Pinto-Hayes for all they did to make the evening run so smoothly.
What a fantastic week of fundraising we have had!
Currently our total amount raised is sitting at $18, 118.48.
We encourage all students who have not yet done so to complete a profile. Every dollar will go towards raising money for our wonderful school and playground.
Congratulations to 5G, 5W and 2G who were the first classes to set up their profiles. They enjoyed an ice block treat on Monday afternoon.
We also reached our first $10,000 milestone over the weekend and so it was Mr Criniti who was a good sport and volunteered to get slimed!
Our Year 6 students completed the first session of the Peaceful Kids program this week. The course will run for the duration of the term with the students having a one hour session each Wednesday. Mrs Girgenti, Mrs Aboumelhem, Mrs Kyriakou and Ms Tsokas are trained facilitators and work with their small groups.
Our Year 5 students completed the course last term. They are now equipped with some skills and tools to help them navigate friendships, emotions and ways to use mindfulness strategies to support their wellbeing each day.
On Monday, Maria from KW had the honour of meeting Stephanie Di Pasqua MP, the State Member for Drummoyne.
Earlier this year, during the Ferragosto Festival, Maria entered a colouring competition and was chosen in the top 10 finalists.
The MP was so impressed, she called and asked to meet Maria in person. Maria was awarded a certificate from Sydney Parliament, a handwritten note and a $20 gift voucher from Dymocks.
Maria told Stephanie about how she is a student at St Francis Xavier Primary School and how she loves her Italian classes with Signora Campagna.
Ms Di Pasqua asked Maria if she could put a copy of Maria's artwork on her Facebook page, to which Maria agreed. What a wonderful opportunity for one of our littlest students and another example of how fortunate we are at St Francis Xavier for the fantastic specialist subjects and teachers we have!
What a wonderful start to Term 4!
Mr Anderson sends his regards to all families and is looking forward to being back at school next week.
God bless,
Fiona
