Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden with 3/4M

Over the last fortnight in the garden we have spent our time helping Rod (our maintenance man) prepare our new orchard space. We used the wheelbarrows to carry and spread some of the mulch around the new trees and helped plant pumpkin seedlings get into old rubber tires. This old space now has been revitalised and reused as a sunny area for our orchard number two with its own little “pumpkin patch”. To go with all these new trees, our Tomato and Eggplant groups today painted signs to label the orchard trees and the veggies in our vegetable gardens. The students did a great job and I can’t wait to see them all in the garden next week.

In the kitchen the students have been amazing at how well they have adjusted to their roles as little kitchen “Masterchefs”. They have embraced all they have had to do which has included setting up the library as a restaurant and practising using their table manners. Mny students have been willing to try new foods which is what the program is all about. As we have had an abundance of silverbeet this year, teacher week our recipes have included this healthy green vegetable. This week we used it in our pumpkin pasta bake and last week we made spinach (silverbeet) and cream cheese pastries. These were a hit amongst all the students and the volunteers. Many were asking for a copy of the recipe afterwards!

A special thanks to the wonderful volunteers who have come to help us over the past fortnight with 3/4M. They have been Greg (Ella’s Dad), Crystal (Ryan Le’s Mum), Sharu (Ayden’s Mum), Tiffany (Hamish’s Mum), Maria (James’ Mum) and Barbara ( Morgan’s Mum). I made celery and apple slaw salad with Crystal. By Ovindi

I enjoyed making salad with Crystal. I shredded the potatoes and chopped them. I enjoyed shredding the potatoes because it makes the potatoes look cleaner. I also chopped the celery and sprinkled the pepper on the salad. I also enjoyed chopping the celery. Overall I thought that the cooking was fun. By Ryan Le

Today i’ll be talking about what we did in cooking in St Marks. but let's start with the helpers: Tiffany, Crystal, Sharu, Greg, Sensei, Nikki and Helen. They are nice people. So let's talk about what me and my group cooked then i’ll talk about what the other groups cooked, so i cooked the main meal that looks so good but i dont know whats it called but it looks good, here's an example of what it had: Pastry-silverbeet+cream cheese. Today the carrots group cooked a warm potato salad with the help of Ryan L,Summer A, Crystal and Aston H. They all kept us safe. We cut, peeled, diced, washed and squeezed. By Isla

Today I cooked a warm potato salad, with a helper named Crystal. She was very nice and made sure to keep us safe. The other groups made a pineapple dip with carrots, scrolls and a pastry with silverbeet and cream cheese. By Summer

Today I did SAKGP(Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program) .This are 2 parts of this program: the gardening part and the cooking part. In this program 2 groups does gardening in the morning and 2 groups does stem we rotate every week so everyone can have a turn of gardening. Also in the cooking part there are 4 groups: eggplant, zucchini, tomato and carrot.There are 4 parts of the food in this program the parts were: main meal, salad, dip and bread. We rotate every week to do different things, and the recipes changes.There is no meat included in this program. By Jonathon

Hi my name is Morgan and I’m here to tell you about Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden. The cooking only happens on Tuesday and goes on for seven weeks. The helpers are really kind and good at cooking so they can help you. And that is the end of my liking of SAKGP. By Morgan

Today we did gardening and STEM. When we did the food we made watermelon salad, anzac biscuits, pumpkin pasta bake and beetroot dip all thanks to the helpers Tiffany, Maria, Sharu, Mrs Siegert and Greg. We are all so grateful for all the helpers and for the food. My group made the watermelon salad one lactose free and one that is not lactose free for the kids that can't eat lactose and kids that can. From Nina

Hi Mrs Siegert I just wanted to say thank you to you and all the terrific helpers that helped make the wonderful food today. Today carrots did the main meal and for the main meal we baked pumpkin pasta . My favourite bit to make was shredding the cheese and mixing it in the bowl. Thank you Mrs Siegert. Today was my first cooking lesson and I thought it was fun.We cooked raspberry muffins for dessert, celery and apple slaw for salad and spaghetti for our main meal.The people who helped us were Hamish’s mum, Tiffany, Mrs Siegert and Nikki Sensei. Today in cooking we made anzac biscuits for my group it was fun just really dirty like when u play in sand pit,so it was of course it was in bread i know it’s not anzac day but they just wanted us to make it but the hard part is when I was shaping it and it kind of kept fall apart so we needed to keep putting this wet thing to it can stay together. Beetroot dip I reckon the anzac cookies are going to be the best. beside the food we have lemon in our water it taste ok but It is more of older people water stuff don’t you reckon yea so that was my experience of Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program so I had a good time today and I give it a 9.5/10 the reason I forgot about the 0.5 percent because people were not focusing that was my report I am done.
