Only a few sleeps to go until the amazing art show!!!
The children have put in an enormous effort to complete all their art pieces ready for the big event. I’ve included a few sneak peaks of the fantastic quality and variety of work that will be on display. We would love to see you all there on Sunday and if you are interested in purchasing one of the exceptional class art pieces, you’ll need to attend the Friday night adults only ticketed event.
We’re all so excited to see this event back on the regular Willy Primary calendar!
Warm Regards,
Marcia Evans
Curriculum Focus in Performing Arts Prep: Students have reviewed the musical symbols for sounds and silence and have taken part in a play reading of the story “The Mitten”. Each student was assigned a character from the story and had to read and play a rhythm that went with their character. This week students are being introduced to the ukulele and how to play them.
Year 1/2: Students have been trying out some popular songs using body percussion to start the lesson and are working on learning a dance to “Uptown Funk”. They have been reviewing how to play an Am, F and C chord on the ukulele using different strumming patterns.
Grade 3/4: Students have been trying out some popular songs using body percussion to start the lesson. They have worked on remembering the correct finger positions for 3 chords, how to change quickly and play a range of strumming patterns.
Grade 5/6: Students have continued working in their groups from last term to finish and rehearse their ending for the play “The Discussion Period”. Students are focussing on keeping their character consistent and the use appropriate expression and movement when acting out their part.

Sports Update
This week we have a sports update from one of our Willy kids. Emilia R, 4G, has been selected by Tennis Australia to represent Victoria against a State of Origin tennis competition against South Australia in the U10s age category. She will be travelling with other selected players and VIC Team tennis coaches to Mount Gambier to compete matches against South Australia at the end of October.
Emilia started playing tennis only two years ago but fell in love with the sport and trains almost daily for a minimum of two hours. Her hard work on court and dedication to the sport has seen her win multiple tennis tournaments this year as well as being selected to participate in Tennis Australia's talent development program for U10s called Super 10s for some of the best young players in the state. Good luck for your matches in Mount Gambier and all the best for your tennis journey!
We are also proud to share that our Boys/Mixed Hot Shots team recently competed in the Division Finals, showcasing their hard work and determination throughout the season. The team displayed exceptional skills and sportsmanship as they faced off against some tough competition. Their commitment to teamwork and strategy was evident in every match, making them a formidable force on the court. We congratulate all the players for their incredible effort and dedication, which has made the entire Willy Primary community proud. Great job, team!
Warm Regards,
Paddy Gallivan (Physical Education)
Les Voyages En France De WPS
Bonjour a tous!
Since my return from France, the term has begun with lots of sharing across all year levels to give them a sense of my family life in the tiny village of Vieilley (Doubs region, North East of France). I have been taking them on a virtual journey from taking off at Tullamarine to landing at ‘l’aéroport Charles De Gaulle a Paris’ around twenty six hours later, catching ‘le TGV’ (bullet train) to be picked up some five and a half hours later by ‘les parents de Madame Cricri’ to finally arrive… HOME. From our near-daily morning runs to ‘la boulangerie’ to pick up exquisite hot out-of-the oven freshly baked baguettes to the lip-smacking Paris-Brest patisserie for ‘l’anniversaire de Manu’, our family outings to the supermarket and soothing walks in the forest with my Mum and Dad around local castles, our go-karting and village motor cross event traditions with everything else in between, students have now a good grasp of what my family life in France truly looks like amongst locals.
While there were many student-led conversations around French history and culture by looking at my slides and videos, we were also fortunate to discuss some students’ very own personal experiences of their recent trips to France. Such real-life adventures are true testimonies of what is possible when learning a second language at school: It brings it altogether when you find yourself in the real world, making all the classroom learnings so worthwhile. As a teacher, it doesn’t get much better than receiving a video from a very excited student at the feet of the Eiffel Tower telling you how you were right all along – gold!!
This coming fortnight:
Preps are going to continue their work on their highlight of my trip. As each class decided on their favourite part, they began to write about it in French. They will draw a picture to represent their understanding and will add French adjectives to describe it.
Year 3s and 4s will continue practising their reading about elements of my French adventure as they illustrate their pages for comprehension of their written work. They will then use the information to deliver their ‘Dans la video, il y a’ speech to the class to summarise what they saw.
Year 5/6s will get to finish off their writing on ‘Le Voyage De Madame Cricri’ for which they have to fill in the blanks with words from a vocab vault. As they work with partners to decode the text, find clues, be problem solvers by using prior knowledge and deduction skills, they have to complete the text by placing missing words in the appropriate sections.
A huge MERCI BEAUCOUP to all our volunteers who have stepped up to the mark in the last two weeks to share in front of their peers.
Note: Year 1s and 2s aren’t doing French this term as they have Kitchen Garden instead.
Madame CRICRI 😊
