Performing Arts Term 4 Overviews
Prep | In Term 4, Prep students are focusing on performing, specifically drama performances using their skills in voice, movement, and expression. Students will first deliver a short, improvised puppet show in small groups, focusing on creating a character and using different voices and emotions. Then, they will rehearse and perform “Three Little Pigs” in small groups in the classroom using props and set pieces kindly built by students in the Secondary Trade Program. Throughout the term, students will be required to listen to and implement feedback given to them by their peers and their teachers, demonstrating their ability in improving performances. |
Year 1 | In Term 4, Year 1 students work towards a performance for the school assembly. They practise a given cultural dance, using safe dance practices, fundamental locomotor and non-locomotor movements, body parts, bases, and zones. They also apply simple technical and expressive dance skills to communicate with the audience while performing the cultural dance. |
Year 2 | In Term 4, students in Grade 2 are working towards learning, rehearsing, and performing two plays; one that they have created and improvised themselves in small groups, and one as a class as a final performance piece. They will need to use their skills in facial expression, body actions, emotions, character voice, and situational awareness to change the audience’s perspective throughout a performance.

Year 3 | In Term 4, Year 3 students work towards a performance for the school assembly. They rehearse the performance, incorporating the singing and dance skills they’ve learned throughout the year. They also apply both technical and expressive dance skills to engage and communicate with the audience during the performance. |
Year 4 | The Year 4 students will be engaging in the rehearsal and feedback cycle this term. This will be framed through a musical production based around animals and biomes. Students will engage in singing, dancing and/or acting while learning about staging. They will then incorporate feedback from others on their performance to enhance it. This is all focused towards delivering a cohesive performance for an audience.

Year 5 | Throughout term 4, Year 5 students will be working on small group projects targeted at their interests within performing arts. This will be either in the areas of dance, drama or music. They will be engaging in the production cycle (pre-production and production) for performance. This will involve the students collaborating on creating and implementing a timeline aimed at creating a robust performance informed by feedback. The students will then tailor this to a given audience, considering how they may have to alter it to ensure it is appropriate.

Year 6 | Students in Year 6 will be focusing on individual filmed projects targeted at their interest within the performing arts throughout term 4. They will engage in the production cycle for film including pre-production, production and post production. To support this, the students will be focusing on reflecting on their work and setting goals through a timeline. The various performances will be spread across dance, drama and music. These will be tailored to an audience of their peers, documenting their progress throughout the term. |
Year 7 | Students in Year 7 will have the opportunity to extend their learning in drama. They will develop a deeper understanding of becoming a character in a performance. Students will work towards expressing their characters feelings and emotions using body language, facial expressions, tone of voice and gestures. Students will participate in a range of class performances using scripts and developing their own endings to conflict scenarios. They will also create and perform their own original plays and develop an understanding of designing complex characters, themes and storylines.. |
