Year Eleven Annual Mocktail Party
In Week Four, our Year Eleven students attended the much-anticipated annual Mocktail Party, a highlight in the social calendar and a fantastic opportunity to build even closer bonds within the year group.
The theme was “Op-Shop Dress,” with each student challenged to create the most memorable outfit possible within a $20 budget. The creativity was on full display, with students scouring local op shops for hidden gems and putting together some wonderfully quirky and humorous costumes. Highlights included tradie outfits, bright Hawaiian shirts, suspenders, jorts, and fairy wings.
The mocktail bar, managed by students Jasmine Anning, Emmeline Cunningham, Jocelyn Cybula, Meg Furphy, Harry Greenup, Rif McNeil-Hanna, Sophie Panizza, Sarah Quartermaine, Lila Robson, Michala Sandy, and Aila Williams, was another hit, serving a colourful array of mocktails. Their endless hospitality made for a fun, dynamic atmosphere as everyone enjoyed these creative drinks.
The party provided a much-needed break from a week packed with assessments, allowing students to unwind, dance, and enjoy some downtime with friends. Mrs O’Donnell even led some dance lessons, preparing them for the moves they will need at the Year Twelve Ball. Learning these new steps was both challenging and fun, making the night an unforgettable blend of socialising, laughter, and a bit of sugar-fuelled dancing.
The Mocktail Party is something Year Tens can look forward to—it’s a memorable, fun evening that’s sure to be a highlight of their Year Eleven experience!

Words from our students: Poppy Ford, Lexie Kershaw, Evan Pretorius, James Atkins, Mapesho Mulela.
Hi, my name is Poppy and I played in the girls competition in Team 1.
Our team played 2 ASHS teams, NASHS and the other Grammar team.
Overall, we had 2 wins and 3 losses.
Some highlights included.
Sofia’s bowling, hitting the wickets multiple times.
Grace's amazing catch, but then she let go because she thought she didn’t have it, which made us all laugh.
And Isla’s and my batting when we were trying to get 25 runs because Lachie had bet me money.
Thank you to Emmeline and Kaya for coaching us and for all their inspirational pep talks, and to Lachie for attending. And a massive thanks to Mr Symonds and Mrs Sprigg for organising the day. We all had a great time and look forward to going again next year.

Hi my name is James and I played in the A grade competition for team 2. Our team played the schools around the Great Southern including Mount Barker, ASHS, NASHS and the other Grammar team
On the day we had 2 wins and 3 losses.
Some highlights included Henry making an amazing dive for a ball that was going way right and actually catching it
And Owen smacking several balls from going out for a 6 to keep them in, or when Archer got out 4 times; in just 1 over against ASHS.
I would like to thank Max and Tommy for coaching our team on the day and Mr Symonds for organising it.

Hi my name is Evan, and I played in the A Grade boys competition, for Team 1.
Our team played against ASHS, NASHS 1 and 2, Mount Barker, and Grammar 2, and managed to get a clean sheet and win the tournament, winning 5 games out of 5.
Some highlights included:
Louis’ uncountable amount of wickets throughout the tournament, especially against ASHS, getting 5 or so wickets out of the 6 balls he bowled. And overall saving us the game. As well as a certain player from the other team accidentally – but willingly – getting out to Louis after most of the balls in the over, and his dropped catch that ended up going for 6.
Another highlight was Fraser King teeing off and getting 40 runs against NASHS 2, and consistently good batting and bowling throughout the team.
Thanks to all the boys for their efforts and learning how to score each match. And to Fraser Syme and Lucas for coaching and helping us get the win. Also, another thanks to Mr Symonds for helping organise the whole tournament for us.
We all had a great time and I’m sure the boys look forward to going again next year.

Hi, my name is Lexie, and I was playing in the girl’s competition team 2, our team played against the other girls grammar team, Denmark, Mount Barker and ASHS. We had three wins, and one loss which was against the girl’s grammar team, Ivy’s bowling was spot on, Molly’s batting was absolutely great and sophies catching was brilliant. All the other girls did an amazing job at supporting each other, I’d like to thank Zoe and Grace for coaching and cheering us on, also getting us all sorted if it wasn’t for them, we wouldn’t have walked off that field with an awesome win thank you.

Hi my name is Mapesho I was on one of the B division teams in the cricket carnival earlier this term.
Our team played ASHS, and 2 NASHS teams, MBCC and Denmark. We had 3 wins and 2 losses.
Some highlights included;
1. Cam bowling wickets in the first few minutes of a match
2. Another good moment was when Miller caught the ball as the opponent hit it.
3. a funny moment was when the opponent was bowling and they bowled a wide so James got to hit it off the T and hit the cone instead of the ball although we didn't win that game it was still a fun game to play.
We all had a great time and look forward to going again next year.

Year Eight Science
We have been studying the different types of rocks and how they are formed. We melted sugar to simulate molten lava then added bicarbonate soda to simulate gases being released in molten lava. The rock that is formed from this process is called pumice.
