Recently, the St Brigid's College Relay for Life team, led by 2024 School Vice-Captain Indilly Penny, attended the annual event held at Coughlin Park. Although the event looked a little different this year due to the weather, the students represented the College with pride and spirit, and fundraised over $2,000 for the Cancer Council! Thank you to everyone in our community who generously donated.
You may be wondering "what's with the red jerry can?". That's Jerry, the relay team's baton and the Class of 2024 mascot. Throughout the year, Jerry has symbolised the strength and support the Year 12 students offer one another, especially as they approach their final VCE exams. Carrying Jerry has become a reminder that they can carry each other through challenges too.
Last week we were very excited to welcome Grade 5 and Grade 6 students from our Parish primary schools, SMJ Horsham, OLHC Murtoa and St Patrick's School, Nhill, to St Brigid's for an immersive Experience Day! Students rotated through three engaging sessions in our Science, Textiles, and Food Technology areas, giving them an exciting glimpse into secondary school life and hands-on experience with our facilities.
Congratulations to our Year 10 students for their participation in the Mock Interview program recently! Each student selected a real job listing, crafted a tailored cover letter and resume, and submitted both online. This program offers a valuable chance for students to build essential job-seeking skills in a real-world context.
Students were interviewed by representatives from Skillinvest, Busy@Work, AXIS Employment and Wimmera Southern Mallee LLEN. Thank you to Brendan Schier, Melissa Powell, Karl Mitton, David Crooks and Sue Korrel, your support was greatly appreciated!
Year 8/9 Photography students have been delving into the art of creating images without cameras. By experimenting with darkroom photograms and the Cyanotype process, they crafted a unique photographic artwork. The piece they created reflects the theme they collectively developed at the beginning of the semester. Their artwork will be displayed in the STEAM building, celebrating their awesome creativity and teamwork!
Recently, a group of Year 9, 10, and 11 students had the opportunity to dive into the world of healthcare at the Grampians Health Horsham & Dimboola 'Hands-on Nursing' day. This fantastic event offered valuable insights and experiences for those students who are interested in careers in nursing. Students engaged in a range of hands-on activities, including basic life support, patient handling techniques, taking and recording vital signs, emergency medicine, and a tour of the hospital. Thank you to Grampians Health and the Wimmera Southern Mallee LLEN for making this excursion possible.
