Principal's Report
As we reach the midpoint of term 4, it’s a time to reflect, celebrate, and look forward. For our community, this season is rich with transition and opportunity. With the conclusion of classes, our Year 12 students have begun their final exams, marking the end of their journey at SCHS and opening the door to new paths—whether they be further study, employment, or time spent exploring through a gap year. This moment of change is one to be celebrated. On behalf of all staff, I congratulate them on their achievements and wish them every success as they step into the next stage of their lives. We know they will always be a part of the SCHS community and hope to see them at our Alumni events in the future.
While we bid farewell to our Year 12s, we also celebrate the Year 11s who now find themselves our most senior students. Their transition to leadership—both formally through student leadership positions, and informally as role models—is significant for both their development and the school as a whole. They are now entrusted with guiding our school community, exemplifying our values, and preparing for their own final year with a sense of responsibility and maturity. I am confident that they will bring their unique energy and commitment to these new roles, and I look forward to watching them lead with integrity and pride.
The school itself is also preparing for an exciting transition. Starting in Week 8, we will introduce a new timetable that brings longer periods, allowing for deeper, more sustained learning. These extended sessions will provide students with the space to apply their knowledge, engage in higher-order thinking, and take on new academic challenges. The new timetable is designed with our commitment to excellence in mind, offering each student a chance to connect with their learning in a meaningful way.
Another major addition being launched in transition is our wellbeing program, which has been thoughtfully designed to support every student proactively. Wellbeing is foundational to academic and life success, and we are excited to implement a curriculum that prioritizes mental health, resilience, and self-awareness. This program will be a crucial resource as students continue to navigate their academic and personal journeys, supporting them to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
The new timetable also introduces independent study periods across all year levels. This initiative will provide students with dedicated time to cultivate skills in self-direction and organization—qualities that will be invaluable as they move through school and beyond.
As with all transitions some students may find these changes hard at first, but our research and expertise tells us that this new program will allow us to meet the needs of our student cohort to an even greater degree. This will support our mission to develop academically able young people from a wide range of geographical and cultural backgrounds to be well rounded, intellectually curious, engaged citizens.
