Learning In My Level

A celebration of what's happening across the school!

LEVEL 4

Another busy term in Year 4! We are so incredibly proud of all our stuents and how much they achieved this year. It has been and will continue to be a busy term, however we have no doubts our students will continue to prove their persistence and dedication.

Since the beginning of the term, students have been working hard on a persuasive speech to present to their class, “If I Ruled the World”. We were blown away by the standard of speeches presented in each classroom and the confidence in which our students presented these. From there, some students were chosen to present these to the whole level. Congratulations to all of those students. The judges decision was definitely not an easy one. A big congratulations to Emilia from 4H who went on to represent Rangeview Primary in the Interschool Public Speaking Competition.

As part of our Inquiry topic this term, Explorers and Navigators, the students were lucky enough to go on an excursion to consolidate their knowledge from the classroom and learn firsthand what life was like many years ago.

On Thursday 31st October, the Year 4s embarked on their exploration to the Polly Woodside. After a bus ride from the suburbs to the city, we arrived outside the Melbourne Exhibition Centre ready to explore. We divided our day into two parts, the Immigration Museum and Polly Woodside. Immersing ourselves in our history, we roamed around the museum learning lots and seeing artifacts from our history.

Students learned about:

  • Immigrant journeys to Australia
  • Reasons people migrate to Australia
  • Immigrant stories across the last 230 years
  • Procedures for immigrants arriving in Victoria
  • First Peoples’ stories of culture and history.

After a brief lunch break, we climbed aboard the decks of the historic Polly Woodside, one of Australia’s last surviving 19th Century tall ships. While on board, we learned so much information about life for the people on the ship and the jobs they would have done at sea. We were able to role play some of these jobs, like we were the sailors on board in the 19th century which was exciting of course, but the novelty would have worn off if we had to complete these hours on end, day after day. Below are just a few photos from our day on board Polly Woodside and at the Immigration Museum.

Thank you to all our parent helpers that volunteered their time to assist on this excursion.
