ITALIAN
What's been happening in Italian?
It's great to be back at school for Term 3. This term in Italian our Topic is Discovery. As a whole school we are going to discover and learn as much as possible about the country of Italy; it's geography, history, culture and traditions.
Prep-Year 2 have started the unit by reading about PInocchio, and how he was made from a log of wood by a lonely carpenter called Geppetto. Pinocchio orginated in Collodi which is in the Tuscany region of central Italy. They have started learning the names of the body parts made by Geppetto before Pinocchio gets into all sorts of trouble and eventually turns into a real boy. The students enjoyed playing 'Simone Dice' (Simon Says) and labelling and colouring in Pinocchio.
Years 3-6 have watched a detailed slide show about the country of Italy. They are exploring where Italy is on the world map and the geography of Italy including the names of the four countries that border Italy. Using their research skills, they have been able to find and label major Italian cities, the two biggest Italian Islands and the many oceans and seas that surround Italy. They researched the two countries within the country of Italy (Vatican City) and (San Marino) and showed where these are on the map of Italy.
Well done everyone, keep up the excellent work!
