Visual Arts
The College has again hosted another successful Works in Progress exhibition with the combination of our Year 12 Visual Arts and Design and Technology students. This provides students with an invaluable opportunity to exhibit their skills as they progress towards their submission date. Students were able to gather feedback from their peers and other students and staff, and it was fabulous to see family and friends visit the exhibition. Students will now be able to use the feed to refine and develop their Body of Work and Major Design Projects.
The Studios have also been a hive of activity this term, with the preparation of props for our successful musical Grease to the learning of all classes from Years 7 - 12.
Year 7 Visual Arts student have recently concluded their sculpture unit where they devised and developed a sculpture based on endangered animals, to complement their work on sculptures. Students also photographed their works, created graphic design works and completed studies on artists related to their artmaking. There have been some wonderful artworks created.
Year 8 Visual artist have just concluded their unit of work on the theme of Still Life. The artworks created by the students involved photographing and photoshopping images which reflect them at a personal level. They then created a drawing and then developed a lino print. Students also engaged in learning about artists and being able to write reflectively on their artmaking practice. Students created some wonderful works and now are engaged in learning about how to use a digital SLR camera and the principles of photography to capture successful images.
Year 10 Visual Arts students have been working towards developing artworks, focusing on the process, research and experimentation in the process. Students have developed an array of artworks and have written critically about their works. Students have also engaged in research and learning about artists both individually and collectively. Year 10 will now begin working towards their own individual body of work, including research and documenting the process while still engaging in small workshop activities.
Year 11 have worked diligently on developing artworks which reflect contemporary practices. They have engaged in a range of critical and historical investigations of artists and have been building their knowledge of the concepts of Visual Arts. Students are now working toward their own minor body of work where they will develop their own concepts and explore their own practices and the practices of other artists as they develop their concepts.
Year 12 Visual Arts students have just concluded the exhibition of their work and are now refining their ideas to build more successful bodies of work. Students have also engaged in a range of learning activities examining the artmaking practices of other artists and building on their knowledge of the concept of Visual Arts. Students are now preparing for their up-and-coming Trial HSC Examinations and submission of the body of work in Week 7 next term.
