Well done to all students who competed in the Hamilton Eisteddfod this week. College again provided a significant proportion of the performers, this year including the Year 7 Concert Band, Year 7 instrumental sections, Pizzicato Strings, Kantor Players, the String Quartet, the Chamber Orchestra, the Jazz Band, our Chamber Singers, the Year 5 Class Band, as well as the Female and Male Voice Choirs and the Festival Voices choir. A number of College students also entered as individual competitors in various sections.

That we can enter such a breadth of ensembles and performers is striking for a school of our size. It speaks to the importance of the Music program here at College, and to the dedication and work of our indefatigable Music staff. I was fortunate enough to see many of our students perform, and they did so very well. They were well prepared, polished, played well, and picked up a number of prizes. However, particularly pleasing was the genuine congratulations they gave to other competitors when they didn’t win a section. This was heartening to see and was a fine endorsement of wonderful young people we’re privileged to work with at our school.
