Principal's Update

Hi everyone,

As we come to the end of Term 2 it is hard to believe that we are already halfway through the year! Our students have achieved some amazing results and should all be very proud of the work they have completed. Well done to all our students and staff for the hard work they put in each and every day!

Writing

We encourage students to participate in authentic writing. The aim of this is to give students a choice on what they are writing, which allows them to find an appropriate purpose and audience to their writing. Students are particularly excited when they get a response, especially from someone famous!

Earlier this year JJ in 3/4M wrote a letter to Tom Hawkins and he has recently recieved a response.

Dear Tom Hawkins,

l think you are a magnificent goal kicker. You will be the next to reach 1000 goals.

I really think you should come to Cobram Primary School (which is close to where you grew up) and teach us how to play, then people will really start to like football. I want to make lots and lots of students enjoy the sport.

You are one of the best players on your team. I really want to see and meet YOU! It will be such an honor to meet someone like you. You are a super good footy player. And you probably got the best running skills. You are the best footballer because of your skill and ability to take marks and kick goals. The reason l do play football for a team is because you inspired me.

I have some questions for you. I know you’re super busy but if you write back to me, that would mean the world!

Who inspired you to play footy?

What team is your biggest rival?

How old were you when you started playing footy?

By JJ Wilson

JJ,

They are very kind words. Thank-you for following my career so closely. I have fond memories of playing football both at Cobram and against them when I was younger.

I have put a lot of work into being the best footballer I can be over a very long period. Almost dating back to when I first held a football as a baby. It’s funny you talk about all those qualities. I will let you in on a little secret, there are plenty of things I’m not that good at when it comes to playing football. I come last in our time trial every year, I still work hard to be as good as I can but it’s not my strength. I’m also not a great tackler. BUT I never let that affect me too much, I just concentrate on the things I’m good at. Like 1on1 contests, leading, marking and kicking.

So just because you might not be good at some parts of your schoolwork, sport or hobby never forget the parts of it that you are good at. And the most important thing, HAVE FUN!!!!!

Now the questions.

Q1. My family members gave me the love for the game. But it was my heroes that inspired me to want to play at AFL level. My Dad, Grandpa, Billy Brownless & Gary Ablett SNR.

Q2. Our biggest rival at the moment is still probably Hawthorn. I have played in some of the greatest games in my career against them. I was lucky enough to kick a goal after the siren in 2012 against the Hawks (Levi might show you this).

Q3. I played Auskick in Finley when I was 6. My first game of competitive football for the Finley 4ths was when I was 10yrs old against Deniliquin.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Well done JJ on your writing and the response received!
