WHY ATTENDANCE AT SCHOOL MATTERS

Did you know that if your child misses 30 minutes of school a day,

they miss 18 days of school a year!

Regular attendance at school lays the foundation for success both

academically and socially. Each day of learning builds upon the last,

creating a cumulative effect that is vital to your child's progress.

Consistent attendance allows your child to develop routines and maximise the learning opportunities essential for success in school and beyond.

Every missed school day represents a missed opportunity for learning, discussion, hands-on activities and collaborative teamwork, all of which contribute to your child's learning. Prioritising participation is important because it gives your child the best chance to succeed academically and unlock their potential as a learner.

Attending school regularly allows your child to interact with peers and teachers and become part of the school community. These relationships provide important support networks and enrich your child's educational experience.

Common issues that contribute to school absences include:

  • anxiety related to being separated from family
  • difficulty managing the sensory demands of school
  • concern about social interactions and demands
  • changes in the school environment, e.g. transition from primary to secondary school, changing teachers, or camp
  • difficulties with their relationship with their teacher
  • learning difficulties
  • bullying and or friendship issues
  • changes/challenges at home
  • mental health issues.

Please contact your child’s teacher or Eva Tomazos (the Learning Diversity Leader) if your child is experiencing any of these difficulties. We can work together to ensure your child is at school every day!
