Term 3 - Week 2

Dear Families,

Welcome back for Term 3! It is almost unbelievable that we are two-thirds of the way through winter and about to enter the final 5 months of the year. We have yet another busy term ahead of us.

Tomorrow, we have a big day at the school. To start the day, we will be having our WNPS Olympics Opening Ceremony from 9.30am on Tasmania. Families and friends are invited to attend and we look forward to seeing as many people as possible getting into the Olympic spirit. Check in with your child’s classroom teacher if you have any queries.  A coffee van will be on site from 8.30am.

I’m sure you are all as excited as we are, for tomorrow’s 150th celebrations. Students across the school will be participating in discos during the day, 150th birthday activities, and will be receiving a special, and generously donated, birthday cupcake from our very own Cupcake Queen – thank you so much! After school, we look forward to seeing our current and past parents and staff who have purchased tickets to attend the 150th birthday evening at school. Thank you to the 150th committee and all involved for your hard work, organisation and dedication to this celebration.

Due to tomorrow’s events, there are some logistical changes that will be in place instead of our normal operations, beginning today and concluding on Sunday, ready to return to normal procedures on Monday. Firstly, OSH Club will be taking place in the STEM room on Friday for both before and after school care. The Station Road gate will be the access point as per normal. Secondly, from tonight until Monday morning, the school gates will be locked and the school grounds closed to the public, including outside of school hours. This will return to normal on Monday, and the gates will be unlocked again after hours.

Finally, we respectfully ask all families to please vacate the school on Friday afternoon as close to 3.30pm as possible, as there will be quite a few vehicles bumping in with food trucks, toilets, and deliveries. We ask this of you to minimise the risk of injury, and ensure that the 150th celebrations are set up in a timely manner. Thank you for your understanding.

I respectfully request that all parents please be mindful of the 10-minute zone, and loading zone car parks at the front of the school. If for some reason traffic cones have been placed in either of these parks, it is usually because the school has a scheduled delivery, is awaiting an ambulance, or a child has been injured and parents need the closest park to the first aid room to transport their children in a wheelchair to their car. I kindly ask that when traffic cones have been placed out, that these are not removed, and that these parking places are avoided. I also ask for all families’ cooperation if, when an ambulance is present and attending to someone at the school, that these two parks be avoided as much as reasonably possible.

I would like to share with our school community that Bruce, our Melbourne Road Crossing Supervisor will be finishing up on Friday this week. The Hobsons Bay City Council are currently recruiting a new Supervisor. If you get a chance on Friday, please say a cheerio to Bruce, and thank him for his efforts in keeping our students safe when crossing Melbourne Road.

One final reminder, if you have a Foundation student, or know of someone with a Foundation student, commencing at WNPS in 2025, please ensure their enrolment application is lodged in the coming weeks.

Have a wonderful week.
